Take a trip to Rarotonga on your Cook Islands Vacation
Rarotonga is the principal and largest island and capital of the Cook Islands. Raro means “down” and Tonga means “south” The island stands 4500 meters above the ocean floor and is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon that is protected by a distant reef hundreds of metres out to sea.
The central area of the island is made up of volcanic peaks cloaked in dense vegetation. These are surrounded by agricultural terraces, flats and swamps. Rarotonga was once dominated by a mighty volcanic pyramid that eroded over time and formed into pointed peaks and razorback ridges. The protected lagoon is a great place to swim and there are four small islets within the reef that are interesting to explore during Rarotonga tours on a Cook Islands vacation.
Muri Beach is considered the best beach in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands and is also the busiest for tourism with lots of restaurants and beach bars. For sports enthusiasts, there is scuba diving, snorkeling, cycling, horseback riding and deep sea fishing. One can take a circle island tour and learn about the local history and culture including discovering the marae, a sacred site dating back an estimated 1500 years.

Te Maeva Nui is the Cook Islands' biggest annual cultural celebration, held every August to mark the anniversary of the nation's self-governance. The festival features colourful parades, traditional music and dance, handicrafts, and local food. It’s a vibrant showcase of the islands’ heritage and community spirit. Attending Te Maeva Nui gives travellers a unique chance to see the culture come alive and connect with locals in a joyful, festive setting
The islands are deeply Christian, and on Sundays almost everything shuts down — shops, cafés, tours. Instead, visitors are welcome to attend vibrant church services full of incredible a cappella singing. It’s one of the most authentic cultural experiences you can have.

E&DI recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals.
We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc.
We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets.
