Overview

Take a trip to Bali on your Indonesia Vacation

Bali has been called “The Island of the Gods” due to the thousands of Hindu temples found everywhere. However, it is also a paradise for mere mortals and a Bali vacation is a heavenly experience in many ways. Unlike other Indonesian islands which are basically Muslim, Bali is strongly influenced by the Hindu religion and culture, which is demonstrated in everyday life through the small offerings found in Balinese houses, businesses, restaurants, and many other places.

Just south of the equator, the island of Bali stretches approximately 153 kilometres/95 miles from east to west and 112 kilometres/70 miles from north to south. The geographical makeup of the island is very varied. There are numerous first-rate beach resorts to be found on a Bali vacation, mainly in the south. The central area contains tropical forests, rice paddies and an actual live volcano plus is the site of the beautiful and mystical town of Ubud. In the north are several quiet beaches with black sand for those who crave a more serene existence. One aspect of a Bali beach vacation is that you can choose from resorts that are lively, offer surfing and large waves or those that are calm, more relaxed and also suitable for families. As a rule of thumb, the west coast has the surf and the east coast, has the calm seas. Bali is blessed with a cultural and natural landscape to captivate the most jaded of travellers.

Ubud is all about jungle, rice terraces, and spirituality—no beaches here. Munduk’s cooler climate and coffee plantations, meanwhile, offer a peaceful escape, while the Bali Swing remains a favourite for photos.

Best Beaches

Bali has an excellent selection of beaches, each of which has its own character and personality catering to every taste and budget for Bali vacations. Starting on the west coast, Kuta is the beach for those who like a lively, somewhat commercial, fast-paced resort with plenty of amenities and nightlife and which attracts a younger crowd on Bali vacation packages. There is also a large selection of restaurants, bars and shops. For surfers, Kuta is one of the many beaches available for this activity and will appeal to lesser-skilled surfers. For sunset worshippers, Kuta provides amazing colours to marvel at most evenings. Nearby Legian Beach is very similar to Kuta and attracts a somewhat older crowd.

Upscale Jimbaran, once a sleepy fishing village, located in the very southwest, is home to several 5-star resort hotels and high-end villas can be rented here. There is a very safe white sand beach for swimming One major attraction on Bali vacations is the mainly open-air, grilled seafood restaurants from which, while dining, you can watch the sunset. Another upscale beach is Seminyak which is a little less serene than Jimbaran. The white sand beach here stretches for around 3 kilometres/2 miles. There are a number of boutique-style shops and good restaurants. Once again, the sunsets are spectacular. Lovina Beach, much further north, is a low-key, relaxed resort where the waves are calm and the area is shaded by palm trees. It is the place to watch the fishing boats depart in the afternoon as the sunset begins to redden the sky. The beach area is spread over 8 kilometres/5 miles and is dotted with small coastal villages.

Moving to the east coast, Nusa Dua caters to all types of visitors on Bali vacations with a good selection of hotels. It is quieter than most Bali beaches but not lacking in restaurants and bars plus there is an excellent shopping mall and an 18-hole golf course. Tanjung Benoa is a place for motorized water sports as well as a family-friendly resort with its calm waters. Sanur Beach was one of the first to be developed and has been characterized as the exact opposite of Kuta Beach. It is a former fishing village with much charm. It is known for its laidback atmosphere and is suitable for those wanting a quiet Bali vacation.

Ingrid did a phenomenal job creating a 22 day trip beginning in with 3 days in Turkey, that included a Turkish Bath and a private tour of the mosques, we then took a 10 day cruise through the Mediterranean, Greece, Croatia, plus a couple of other stops. We got off the cruise in Ravenna Italy our transportation was spot on picking us up (I would have to stay all of our transportation was impressive, always there, on time, very helpful) we traveled from Ravenna to Venice where we stayed for two nights. Venice is the only place we had a hiccup, we weren't sure if someone was meeting us at our Hotel to take us to the water taxi to get to the train station, we figured it out, made the train and all was good. Traveled to Florence, had the best time there with one of our most favorite excusions, stayed in Florence for two nights and then completed our trip with three nights in Rome. Rome is BUSY, I was not prepared for that but should of expected it. This is our second big trip planning through Goway Travel, I can not recommend enough, they are so detailed and take care of everything you need and everything you didn't know you needed. The room arrangements had a small hiccupp but Katie fixed it within minutes! All the excursions were a blast and well planned. The trip was a bucket list trip and was everything we hoped for. Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

Goway helped plan our two week trip to Peru and they (Virginia in particular) did a great job. The on-site logistics with Condor Travel went very smoothly, and the trip exceeded our expectations overall. They proactively suggested changes to our initial itinerary which were welcomed. I would recommend them and would work with them again in the future.Kate O'Neill

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
