It’s a fusion that is highlighted in its food and its architecture, and heard in its music. Life here may be deeply rooted in ancient traditions, yet it is vibrantly alive.

One of the first things travellers notice is Moroccan hospitality. It’s not just a custom. It’s a way of life. Moroccan cuisine is all about celebrating a balance of flavours, like sweet with savoury, and subtle spices.

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Current exchange rates show that USD $1 is the equivalent to almost 10 MAD. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and some restaurants, but cash is king in souks and rural areas. ATMs are widely available in cities.

Arabic is the official language, but French is widely spoken, especially in business and government. In most tourist areas, you'll find people who speak English, but learning a few words of Arabic or French can go a long way in helping you connect with the locals.

Most visitors, including those from the U.S., Canada, the UK, and the EU can enter visa-free for up to 90 days. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of entry.

Morocco is a predominantly a Muslim country, so it’s best to dress modestly, especially in rural areas. Women should consider covering shoulders and knees; a lightweight head scarf can be useful for visits to religious sites.

In markets and souks, bargaining is expected. It’s part of the culture, so embrace it with a smile and good humour.

Alcohol is available throughout Morocco, but only in licensed restaurants, hotels, and certain shops. You won’t find it in public spaces.
