The Castile region in Spain is home to several exciting cities and remarkable heritage surrounding Madrid. The fortified city of Toledo, known as the City of the Three Cultures, holds UNESCO World Heritage status. You'll encounter an array of monuments, including churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques, and synagogues, symbolizing the centuries of coexistence between Christians, Arabs, and Jews in Toledo. The city is also synonymous with the famed painter El Greco, and his former residence, now a museum, showcases some of his finest works. The Mosque of Cristo de la Luz, built in 999, remains a remarkably preserved relic of its era, and the historic Synagogue of El Transito is celebrated for its intricate stucco decoration, rivalling the Alcazar in Seville and the Alhambra Palace in Granada. Be sure to visit the imposing Alcazar of Toledo, a massive stone fortress perched atop the city, now housing the Army Museum. 

The old city of Segovia is another UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasting an array of historic buildings, notably those with Jewish origins, including the significant Jewish cemetery, El Pinarillo. The Roman-built Aqueduct of Segovia, dating back to the late 1st century, remains an engineering marvel and is still used for delivering drinking water today. The Alcazar of Segovia, perched on a stone peninsula between two rivers dating back to 1122, was once the royal residence of the kings of Castile, and the Segovia Cathedral is the last gothic cathedral constructed in Spain, encircled by the formidable granite Walls of Segovia, enveloping visitors in the city's rich history and architectural grandeur.
