Take a trip to Sacré Coeur de Montmartre on your France Vacation
When it comes to popular tourist destinations in the capital, the Sacré Coeur is second only to the Eiffel Tower. Located in the heart of the Montmartre neighbourhood and the 18th arrondissement, the basilica was built between 1875 and 1914, one of several white stone basilicas constructed in France at the end of the 19th century. The basilica was proposed as a way for France to make amends for its sins, which were believed to have led to its defeat in the Franco-Prussian war.
The Sacré Coeur is built in the Romano-Byzantine style. The vault of its apse is decorated with one of the world's largest gilded mosaics depicting Christ in Glory. The basilica is home to equestrian statues, notable Joan of Arc on horseback and King Saint Louis, and a 19-ton bell, one of the world's heaviest and largest. Its prominent dome is the highest point in Paris and requires climbing 292 steps to get to the top for sweeping city views. The basilica is open throughout the year. Entry is free, but you'll have to pay to climb the dome.

We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was.
