Overview

Take a trip to Cambridge on your England Vacation

Cambridge, renowned for its university, is a captivating city with much more to offer. Begin your exploration with visits to its historic college campuses, some dating back to the 12th century. Among the 31 open-to-the-public colleges, Trinity College stands out as the largest, boasting impressive achievements such as 32 Nobel Prize winners and 6 British prime ministers. The 16th Century King’s College Chapel is famous for its choral services, including the beloved A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, broadcast live by the BBC on Christmas Eve. The Choir of King’s College offers enchanting performances, with Choral Evensong sung most days during term time.

Beyond the colleges lies the Backs, a series of gardens and parks along the River Cam, offering picturesque views of the colleges. Punting on the river allows you to see Cambridge from a different perspective. Enjoy a riverside picnic or explore the city on a bicycle, thanks to its excellent network of cycle paths.

Cambridge's museums are a treasure trove of culture. The Fitzwilliam Museum houses extensive art and antiquity collections, while the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences boasts a vast array of minerals, fossils, and rocks. Kettle's Yard is a hub for 20th-century and contemporary art. Other museums include the Polar Museum, the Whipple Museum of the History of Science, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Museum of Zoology, and the Museum of Classical Archaeology.

Cambridge Market is a vibrant street market open seven days a week, known for its candy-striped awnings. Here, you can find unique items, browse second-hand books and vinyl records, and shop for handmade jewelry. On Sundays, an arts and crafts market showcases local printmakers, sculptors, and potters.

A traditional British high tea is a must do in my option. If traditional isnt your cup of tea there are a seemingly endless amount of themed teas including but not limited to Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Bridgerton and Wizard themed.

I love the history of England. There is so much to see and experience not only in regards to history but art and architecture, natural beauty and so much more. It is a very easy country to get around and also very easy to use it as a jumping off point for visiting the rest of Europe.

Late spring to early fall for the best chance of nice weather or during Christmas. London is magical at Christmas time.

The English are actually proud of their cuisine (mostly stereotyped as bland). Afternoon Tea, A full English Breakfast, a Chippy Stand, traditional Sunday roast - all must tries!
