Overview

Take a trip to Brussels on your Belgium Vacation

Brussels apart from being the capital of Belgium is also the capital of the European Union, due mainly to its geographical location. It is a thriving metropolis offering both historical and contemporary attractions. Its location in the centre of the country makes it, together with its excellent rail services, an excellent place from which to travel to other important tourist destinations on a Belgium vacation

Brussels is a bilingual city but with a predominance of French speakers as opposed to Flemish. All streets have two names, one for each language. Gastronomically, Brussels has an outstanding reputation for excellent cuisine. Some of its specialties are mussels, waffles and French fries par excellence.

Spring or fall are the best times to visit Belgium. Both seasons have fewer tourists and pleasant weather. Fall is pleasantly cooler, while spring is when all the flowers begin to bloom.

Manneken Pis is one of the most loved statues in Brussels. It's easy to miss if you don't know where to look!

You'll be surprised how much Belgians love their fries! Possibly more than their waffles and castles!

The thing I love the most about visiting Belgium is the unique blend of medieval charm and modern-day culture. You can go from a Gothic guild hall to a craft beer bar within minutes.

Neighbourhoods

There are a number of neighbourhoods in Brussels. The centre of the city is old with much ambience and character. The near-lying suburb of Marolles has a daily flea market at Place du Jeu de Balle. Ixelles is a neighbourhood featuring a large choice of restaurants, bars and bookshops. St-Gilles is the city’s bohemian quarter, home to artists and students alike. Uccle is a charming medieval district with narrow streets, tiny squares and small townhouses.
