Overview

Take a trip to Great Wall of China on your China Vacation

Spanning the distance of half the world's equator, the Great Wall of China is the longest wall in the world. It was envisioned as a defensive project to protect China's north and promote the expansion of the Silk Road. Construction of the wall began in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BCE) and continued through many different dynasties. One of the most visited tourist attractions in the world, the Great Wall of China receives an estimated 10 million visitors annually.

Hiking is a popular way to appreciate the enormity and design of the wall. You can also head on a night walk on the beautifully lit wall, camp under the stars, enjoy a picnic in Mutianyu and Simatai sections, toboggan slide down the wall, and or even go on a helicopter tour over it. There are no toilets on the wall, so use the restrooms in the valley before ascending. As there are no shops or restaurants either, carry essentials and have a full breakfast/meal before setting out.

It is very enjoyable to travel in China by high-speed train, but you should avoid travelling during the National Holidays from October 1 to 7 and from May 1 to 4, as they get extra busy.

Jinxian Road in Shanghai is a small road but full of superb, Michelin-recognized restaurants. I highly recommend visiting here on your travels to China.

China's many beautiful natural sights and rich cultural areas are what I love most about visiting. Some of my personal favourites are Yunnan's Shangri-La, Xinjiang, Zhangjiajie, and the 5 Great Mountains.
