Take a trip to Lusaka on your Zambia vacation.
One of Southern Africa’s fastest developing cities, Lusaka is the largest and capital city of Zambia. Its location allows it to connect with the country’s four major highways heading north, south, east and west and it is the centre of both commerce and government.
Once the site of a small village, Lusaka began to expand after the arrival of European settlers, mainly from Britain, who built a railroad there in 1905. By 1935, Lusaka had become the capital of Northern Rhodesia. The city emerged as the centre of an independence movement that helped lead to the creation of the Republic of Zambia. Once independence was granted, Lusaka remained the country’s capital.
