Overview

Take a trip to Linyanti Wildlife Reserve on your Botswana Vacation

Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is a large private reserve covering an area of 125,000 ha that borders Chobe National Park’s western boundary. Linyanti is one of the least visited parts of Botswana but it is also one of the most unspoiled areas in the country, making it a great destination for a safari.

The reserve is in quite a remote part of Botswana and there are only a few private camps which means the wildlife found there exists in relative peace on a Botswana safari. Once used as a hunting ground during colonial times, Linyanti has since been reclaimed as a protected area where wildlife thrives in peace, and today it offers high concentrations of giraffe, buffalo and antelope. The area is also known for its predator species including lions, cheetahs, hyenas and leopards.

A great deal of Chobe National Park’s wildlife chooses to spend the winter season in the reserve and as such, the waters of Linyanti offer excellent views of huge migratory species such as zebra and elephants. Outside of the rainy season on Botswana safaris, Linyanti hosts the first permanent water supply that migratory animals come across.

The reserve is named for the Linyanti River which flows eastward toward Chobe National Park. Along the river are various pools and lagoons that are frequented by hippos and crocodiles. These water sources are also popular with birds making Linyanti a year-round birding destination.

May - September is considered the prime time for game viewing, particularly in the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. Animals are easier to spot as they gather around water sources, and the vegetation is less dense
