Best Time to Visit

Egypt: Year-round allure, diverse landscapes, and vibrant cultural festivals.

Egypt is a destination that captivates at any time of year, with each season offering its own rewards. Summer (June to August) brings bright skies, long days and whilst it is indeed very hot, the humidity differs between Nile Valley (dry) and Red Sea (more humid). In contrast Spring (March to May) welcomes warm breezes and blooming landscapes along the Nile, with warmer temperatures in Upper Egypt (Luxor/Aswan). Autumn (September to November) is perfect for cultural festivals and harvest flavours, and winter (December to February) offers cooler temperatures that make exploring ancient sites more comfortable. Whether you want to cruise the Nile, explore the temples of Luxor, or dive in the Red Sea, there is an ideal time for every traveler.

Overall, “October to April is the best time to visit,” says Destination Specialist Elise Umulisa. “Any other time can get uncomfortably hot, which can affect your experience and even risk heat exhaustion.”

Speak to one of our Destination Specialists today about where to go in Egypt and when.

Planning Travel Around Egypt’s Seasons

Spring (March to May) is a pleasant time for sightseeing in Egypt, with mild temperatures that make exploring temples, tombs, and museums more comfortable. It is also an excellent time for desert excursions before the summer heat sets in.

Summer (June to August) is hot in Egypt, with many days over 45 degrees Celsius in some regions. This is an ideal time for coastal escapes to the Red Sea resorts of Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada, where sea breezes and clear waters make for perfect beach days and diving conditions.

Fall (September to November) brings cooler weather and is one of the best seasons for exploring ancient sites without the crowds of peak season. September is also ideal for those who enjoy warm desert adventures.

Winter (December to February) is a popular time for cultural exploration. Pleasant daytime temperatures make it pleasurable to explore Cairo’s markets, sail the Nile, and visit the Valley of the Kings. “November to April is the most pleasant weather-wise,” notes Destination Specialist Jodi Hartnell, “while summer can be sweltering.”

The Best Times to Visit Egypt According to Your Interests

Nile Cruises

October to April is the most popular time for cruising the Nile, with cooler weather for onshore excursions and sunny days for enjoying the views from the deck.

History and Culture

Spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) offer the best conditions for temple visits, archaeological excursions, and city tours. These seasons combine comfortable temperatures with manageable crowd levels.

Food and Drink

Autumn coincides with the harvest season for dates, figs, and other local specialities. This is an excellent time to enjoy Egypt’s vibrant markets and fresh seasonal flavours alongside culinary-focused experiences. In good rainfall years, Egypt also sees natures surprise crop of seasonal desert truffles appearing in markets from roughly January to March - a short, highly prized culinary window and a popular addition to tagines and soups eaten with rice and meat.

Regional Highlights to Plan Your Egyptian Trip Around

Cairo is appealing all year round, from its bustling markets and grand museums to vibrant spring and autumn festivals that bring music, colour, and tradition into the streets. In Luxor, winter is the ideal time to explore the Valley of the Kings and other archaeological treasures, with cooler weather making it easier to spend long days outside. Along the Red Sea, Sharm El Sheikh offers warm, sunny conditions for beach vacations and diving from October to April, when the sea is calm and the temperatures are just right for days on the sand or in the water. It must be said that the seas are at a warm “swimmable” temperature year round.

Let the Seasons Shape Your Egypt Journey

The rhythm of the seasons can shape the perfect Egyptian journey. A winter itinerary might combine Cairo’s historic sites with a Nile cruise to Luxor and Aswan, while a spring visit offers comfortable sightseeing paired with desert adventures. Summer travelers may prefer a coastal escape to Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada, mixing relaxation with diving or snorkelling. In autumn, pair ancient wonders with culinary and cultural experiences tied to the harvest season. Knowing when to visit each region ensures you get the best of Egypt’s landscapes, heritage, and warm hospitality.

What is the peak tourist season in Egypt?

The peak season runs from October to April, especially around December and January. What is the best month to visit the pyramids in Egypt?

I was looking at a month holiday in New Zealand and Australia and Natasa Jaric who is located in the Toronto area helped to make it happened by combining 2 already designed holidays in Oceania. From the beginning to the end, Natasa was "hands on" by explaining and providing everything I needed for our trip. During our trip, there were few bumps on the road that had nothing to do with Goway Travel as it was the airline company that cancelled our scheduled flight and created chaos. And the other problems (they were light) was because of the way hotels described their rooms. It should definitely be better worded! Db to me means double bed ... what does it mean to you? ;-) Anyhow, we ended up having two beds but with some arguments at one hotel only. The others accommodated us at no extra cost. I should also add that NZ and Aus. know how to treat tourists. I was particularly impressed with the transfers services offered by different companies both in NZ and Aus. Wow! No waiting at the airports, hotels or terminals. They were there ready to pick us up and drive us where ever we needed to be! Well done!!! It's the kind of service that I will have a hard time not to use again as it comes with a $ sign but definitely worth spending it! :-). I received a very good response from the "Help office" when the flight was cancelled and other inquiries I had made. Very good service once again. I live quite a few experiences during that month and all thanks need to go to Natasa and her team. So Natasa: Thank you very very much for a very well organized travel! Carole Ouellet

Ingrid did a phenomenal job creating a 22 day trip beginning in with 3 days in Turkey, that included a Turkish Bath and a private tour of the mosques, we then took a 10 day cruise through the Mediterranean, Greece, Croatia, plus a couple of other stops. We got off the cruise in Ravenna Italy our transportation was spot on picking us up (I would have to stay all of our transportation was impressive, always there, on time, very helpful) we traveled from Ravenna to Venice where we stayed for two nights. Venice is the only place we had a hiccup, we weren't sure if someone was meeting us at our Hotel to take us to the water taxi to get to the train station, we figured it out, made the train and all was good. Traveled to Florence, had the best time there with one of our most favorite excusions, stayed in Florence for two nights and then completed our trip with three nights in Rome. Rome is BUSY, I was not prepared for that but should of expected it. This is our second big trip planning through Goway Travel, I can not recommend enough, they are so detailed and take care of everything you need and everything you didn't know you needed. Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler
