The original capital of Ancient Egypt was Memphis, located southwest of Cairo and founded in 2,000 BC by King Menes who united Upper and Lower Egypt. Present day Cairo was established almost 3,000 years later in 969 AD. Since its inception, Cairo has been ruled by Persians, Pharaohs, Romans, Arabian caliphs, British colonials and more. After the Second World War, the development of this fascinating city has been intense resulting in a large and fast growing population.
Cairo is a truly world famous city home to some of the world’s most famous sites to be enjoyed on Egypt tours. Everything was wonderful. Everything went smoothly. The individual tours were wonderful and all the guides were exceptional. A lot of traveling-the flight was very good on Cathay Pacific would highly recommend their airline seats were comfortable and spaced well. Being on an airplane for 16 hours sucks in general, but other than being a little sore from being stuck in one place all was good.
