“Farnaz Bagheri - Specialist”
We decided to go to France for 3 weeks in September and knew we needed help planning the trip (we made this decision in August so a very short time frame. We had traveled with Goway a few years ago and were hoping they could help. Our specialist, Farnaz Bagheri, was fantastic, she listened to what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. She literally arranged everything with her French partners. The guides and drivers were wonderful the accommodations were excellent. Communication was easy from the first discussion to the time we got home. Farnaz planned for us an exceptional trip in a very short time frame. Promise next trip we will contact Goway much earlier. Thanks again

“50th Anniversary trip to Europe”
October 9, 2026, was our 50th wedding anniversary. To celebrate, I wanted to take my bride to Europe for 50 days. Also, other than the flight over, I wanted to make the trip by train. I contacted Farnaz at Goway. The trip we planned ultimately extended to 60 days. It was absolutely flawless. We had great hotels, great tours. Even though this trip was complex and had a lot of moving parts, there were no problems. Farnaz and the folks at Goway done a great job. I highly recommend them and will definitely use them on any future trips

“Fantastic Croatia experience. ”
We had a fabulous Croatia vacation with a cruise from Dubrovnik to Split, followed by land tours on Split and Opatija. Lodging was always comfortable and conveniently located. Tours and activities were perfectly suited to our interests. We have used GoWay for 2 vacations and are currently working on another.

“Great experience planning our Greece Vacation”
We recently worked with Jacqueline to plan our trip to Greece and had a wonderful experience. We made several revisions to our itinerary and Jacqueline was patient, understanding and prompt in responding to our needs. In addition to the specific tours she booked, she provided extra options and local suggestions for each place we visited in Greece. Her attention to detail and responsiveness made our trip incredibly memorable.

“Our travel agent”
Our travel agent, Melissa Moses, created the perfect itinerary for our recent holiday to Portugal. Melissa had also planned our previous trip to England/Scotland. We have a great deal of confidence in her ability as she really listens to what we are looking for and she caters the plans according to our comfort levels and interests.

“Fabulous Italy and Greece”
This was the first time we had utilized Goway. We wanted a custom itinerary for a 3 week Italy, Athens and Greek Island adventure. Edwina Brislane was receptive to our goals for the trip, had helpful suggestions and reacted well to our requested revisions. Lisa Dachuk helped "tie a ribbon" on the trip and ensured we had considered all aspects of the experience. Lisa dealt quickly with a couple of requests while on the trip and celebrated a successful trip with us. We enjoyed working with both Edwina and Lisa. Their knowledge and enthusiasm contributed to our very memorable trip.

“Greece Islands and Inland”
I recently traveled to Greece with friends, and our entire experience was exceptional thanks to the planning support we received from Avery at GoWay. Every part of our itinerary was organized with care, accuracy, and great attention to detail. Our accommodations — Hera Hotel Athens and Sofitel Athens Airport — were comfortable, well‑located, and exactly what we needed. All airfares from Calgary and the multiple transfers (airport to city centre, city centre to Piraeus Port, and back again) were perfectly coordinated and made the trip completely stress‑free. The 7‑night Idyllic Aegean Cruise was a major highlight. It was beautifully arranged and gave us an unforgettable way to explore the islands. Our excursions were equally impressive: Skip‑the‑Line Acropolis & Acropolis Museum timed entry, which made sightseeing smooth and efficient Classical Greece: Olympia, Delphi & Meteora, a breathtaking and well‑paced journey through some of Greece’s most iconic historical sites Avery was consistently responsive, knowledgeable, and proactive throughout the planning process. Every confirmation, transfer, and timing detail was handled flawlessly, allowing us to simply enjoy the trip without worrying about logistics. I highly recommend GoWay Travel — and especially Avery — for anyone planning a trip to Greece. This was one of the best travel experiences I’ve had, thanks to their outstanding service and organization.

“Great Irish experience.”
My wife and I have just returned from our 5th trip with Goway. Once again everything ran smoothly from first day to last. This trip was the 9 day all Ireland tour which covered both north & south Ireland. The tour was operated by Rabbies tours whom we used in Scotland and the 16 passenger van only had 6 passengers including us.Other than a couple of days the weather was prety good although the wind did get a bit wild. The pub food was delicious & i got a taste for real Guiness. We spent a few extra days in Dublin and found it very expensive, the excange rate didn't help. Our travel consultant Jaqueline personalised the trip and was very helpful.

Travel Information about Latvia

Best Time to Visit

Latvia offers a different kind of beauty with every season, making it a rewarding destination no matter when you travel. From long sunlit days in summer to snow-covered landscapes in winter, the country’s rhythms of nature shape its experiences and atmosphere.

Summer, from June to August, is the most popular season to visit Latvia. The days are long and warm, perfect for exploring Riga’s cobbled streets, wandering coastal towns, or spending time by the Baltic Sea. Outdoor festivals, open-air markets, and lively café terraces capture the energy of the season, making it an ideal time to enjoy the country’s cultural and natural highlights.

For those who prefer a quieter journey, spring and autumn are especially rewarding. April to May sees Latvia’s forests and meadows burst into colour as flowers bloom, while September to October offers crisp air, golden foliage, and tranquil hiking trails. These shoulder seasons bring fewer crowds, offering travellers the chance to connect with Latvia’s landscapes at a gentler pace.

Winter transforms Latvia into a snowy retreat. From November to March, regions such as Sigulda and Valmiera become popular for skiing, snowboarding, and other cold-weather pursuits. Frozen rivers, frosty woodlands, and festive markets add to the magic, though temperatures can drop sharply, so warm clothing is essential.

Whether you seek vibrant city life, quiet countryside walks, or snow-dusted adventures, Latvia’s changing seasons ensure a memorable journey throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

US and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, as Latvia is part of the Schengen Zone. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your stay. No special permits are needed for general travel.

Latvian is the official language. Russian is also commonly spoken, especially in Riga and eastern regions. English is widely understood in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas, particularly among younger Latvians. In rural areas, English is less common, but basic communication is usually possible.

Riga’s Old Town, with its Art Nouveau architecture, cobblestone streets, and lively cafés, is the cultural heart. The Central Market, set in former zeppelin hangars, offers a taste of local life. Outside the capital, Gauja National Park is known for castles, caves, and forest trails. The seaside resort of Jūrmala is popular for its sandy beaches and wooden villas. Rundāle Palace, often called the “Versailles of the Baltics,” showcases baroque splendour.

Latvia is generally very safe for travellers. Petty theft can occur in crowded areas like markets or public transport in Riga, so keep belongings close. Roads are good, though winter driving can be slippery. Use registered taxis or ride-hailing apps instead of hailing cabs on the street.

Trains and buses connect Riga with major towns and are affordable and reliable. Within Riga, trams, buses, and trolleybuses make getting around easy. Renting a car is useful for exploring the countryside, national parks, and coastal towns at your own pace. Cycling is popular in summer, especially along the Baltic coast.

Latvians value politeness and personal space. A handshake is the usual greeting. It’s customary to remove shoes when entering someone’s home. When visiting churches, dress modestly. Tipping around 10% in restaurants is appreciated but not mandatory. Respect for nature is important—Latvians often spend time in forests and by the sea, so follow local rules when hiking or camping.

Latvia has four distinct seasons. Summers are mild to warm—pack light clothing, but bring a sweater for cool evenings. Winters are cold and snowy, requiring a warm coat, gloves, hat, and sturdy boots. Spring and autumn can be chilly and damp, so layers and a rain jacket are practical. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for cobblestone streets and nature trails.
