Two monsoon seasons, each revealing Sri Lanka's lush landscapes.

Two monsoon seasons

Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons, which can make it challenging to know the best time to visit. The northeast monsoon runs from December to March, while the southwest monsoon runs from June to October. However, rain can be expected throughout the year, making Sri Lanka lush and green.

The best time to visit Sri Lanka will depend on what you want to do. If you are looking for good weather and sunny skies, the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. However, the wet season can be a good option if you are looking for a more affordable time to visit. Just be prepared for rain!

Named as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean

Sri Lanka, often called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean and the Teardrop of India, has a beauty that's hard to match. The nickname "Pearl of the Indian Ocean" is likely because of its stunning natural landscapes, diverse wildlife, and abundance of precious gemstones. As for the "Teardrop of India," that's a nod to the country's shape resembling a teardrop and its spot just off the coast of India. It's a little slice of paradise that earned its poetic nicknames through a mix of breathtaking scenery and strategic location.

It has two international airports

Sri Lanka has two international airports: Bandaranaike International Airport, located 30 km north of Colombo. The other one is in the country's main city (not the capital, which is Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte), Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, located near Hambantota in the south.

Make sure to take tea as a souvenir

Sri Lanka is a significant tea producer and exporter, and tea is a big business in the country. The British brought the first tea plant to Sri Lanka from China in 1824, and it has since grown into a vast industry. Over 1 million people in Sri Lanka, out of a population of 22 million, work in the tea industry.
