Food & Drink

Experience Sri Lanka's culinary diversity with savory and sweet delights.

Sri Lankan hoppers

Sri Lankan hoppers are a must-try. They are made with a fermented batter of rice flour and coconut milk and have a bowl-like shape with crispy edges and a fluffy centre. Plain hoppers are usually served with lunu miris, a chilli and salt condiment. For a savoury dish, try an egg hopper, where an egg is cracked into a plain hopper and cooked to perfection. Hoppers can also be served with sweet milk, jaggery (palm sugar), and coconut milk, making them a delicious dessert.

Yellow Rice ( Kahabath) with curries

India and the Netherlands have influenced Sri Lankan cuisine and feature a wide variety of sweet, savoury, spicy, and medicinal dishes. Locals love to cook with various spices, readily available throughout the country at very affordable prices. Yellow rice (Kahabath) with curries is a popular dish.

Drinks

Sri Lanka is like the VIP of tea producers globally. Thanks to its high altitudes and hill country vibes, it's the perfect spot for growing some seriously flavourful tea. Now, how do the locals enjoy their cuppa? Most go for tea with a dash of milk and sugar.

But hold up, there's more than tea in the beverage scene. Enter Faluda, a crowd-pleaser made with syrup, ice cream, jelly pieces, and basil seeds. And when the temperatures rise, fruit juices become the go-to cool-down option.
