Insider Travel Tips

Prepare for your Macau adventure with these essential travel tips.

Before heading to Macau, here are some essential things you should know for a seamless travel experience. For Macau tours, you should:

Carry your passport if you are planning to visit a casino. Casinos anywhere in the world grant permission to foreign travellers if they meet the eligible age requirement and have a passport with them. In Macau, a passport is an age verification document to enter casinos.

Be sensitive to their culture. Macau has a diverse culture, from Western to Eastern. Respect every culture and follow the local traditions. For example, Buddhism is prevalent in Macau, and the locals expect the travellers to dress modestly when visiting their temples.

Take care of your belongings, especially your passport. Although Macau is a safe place with a low crime rate, as a precaution, you still need to take care of your belongings, like passports and money, especially in crowded areas.

Purchase local SIM. Having your local number is important to travel hassle-free. The mobile data helps in searching important sites online. You can purchase local SIM at the airport or different outlets. The SIM pricing is reasonable and comes with good data plans.

Brush up on the local language. Portuguese and Chinese are the official state languages. Learn a few important words and phrases like hello and thank you in either of the languages, which will help you connect with the locals.

Carry cash and your ATM card. The official currency in Macau is the Macanese Pataca (MOP). Other than this, Hong Kong dollars are also acceptable. Besides this, you can use major credit cards to make purchases at stores.
