The Allure of Ancient Civilizations

For families seeking a journey through time, Peru's ancient ruins provide the perfect backdrop for adventure. No trip would be complete without a visit to the iconic Machu Picchu. This UNESCO World Heritage site is not only a testament to the ingenuity of the Incas but also a breathtaking experience that leaves a lasting impression on visitors of all ages. As you wander through the centuries-old stone paths of this "Lost City," the mystique of the lost civilization unfolds before your eyes.

Equally captivating is the Sacred Valley, a lush expanse that serves as the gateway to Peru's ancient past. Here, you'll find the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo and Pisac, where families can delve deeper into the Inca way of life through guided tours of Peru that reveal the secrets of this fascinating culture.

Cultural Richness and Vibrancy

Beyond its historical allure, Peru is a country of vibrant traditions. In Cusco, the once capital of the Inca Empire, the cobbled streets echo with the sounds of lively markets and cultural festivals. Wander through the San Pedro Market, where locals sell everything from colourful textiles to exotic fruits, offering a sensory feast for young and old alike. The city's cathedrals and colonial architecture serve as a reminder of Peru's diverse history and are an integral part of any family vacation itinerary.

In addition, the famous city of Lima—often serving as the entry point for many travellers—boasts a thriving culinary scene. Known as the "Gastronomical Capital of the Americas," Lima offers food enthusiasts an opportunity to savour traditional dishes like ceviche and anticuchos. Whether your family finds delight in the bustling local eateries or the more upscale dining experiences, there's no shortage of flavours to explore.

Natural Wonders and Outdoor Adventures

For those who seek more than history and culture, Peru offers an abundance of natural wonders. The famed Amazon Rainforest stretches into northeastern Peru, providing families with the chance to embark on eco-tours where wildlife sightings are virtually guaranteed. Discover the diverse ecosystems by exploring the lush jungle canopy or cruising along the mighty Amazon River.

In contrast, the towering Andes Mountains promise thrilling outdoor adventures. From hiking trails that wind through awe-inspiring landscapes to the gentle rhythm of a traditional horseback ride, the options are endless. Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, is another must-visit destination, offering families the chance to sail to mythical islands that house ancient communities living in harmony with the land.

Practical Tips for Family Vacations to Peru

  • Travel during the dry season (May to September) to make the most of your outdoor adventures.
  • Acclimatize in Cusco before heading to higher altitudes like Machu Picchu to ensure everyone's comfort.
  • Consider guided tours that cater to families for a more seamless and informative experience.
  • Pack layers and sunscreen, as weather conditions can vary greatly with altitude.

Peru beckons with a promise of discovery, where each journey becomes a story waiting to be written. Whether wandering through its ancient ruins, marvelling at its natural beauty, or indulging in its culinary delights, Peru family vacations are about creating memories that transcend time. So, why wait? Start planning your family's unforgettable South American adventure today.

For a unique experience visit an indigenous village high in the Andes for a Pachamama ceremony. I was fortunate to participate in one and the warmth of the people and how simple they lived, really touched my heart.

May to October is the best time to visit as it is the dry season with sunny days, clear skies, ideal for trekking and enjoy the landscape. However like in all Latin countries, the weather is unpredictable, so be ready if any rain show up during a sunny day

Everyone should make sure they try a Pisco sour - It's Peru’s national cocktail—a smooth, citrusy, and slightly foamy drink made with pisco, a type of grape brandy. It’s both refreshing and strong, with a sweet-tart balance and a signature foamy top from egg white.

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
