The Amazon Rainforest: A Living Classroom

Imagine stepping into a living, breathing classroom, where the world’s most diverse ecosystem serves as your guide. The Amazon Rainforest is an essential stop on any family vacation to Ecuador, offering an immersive experience that combines adventure with education. Embark on river cruises or guided jungle hikes to spot vibrant wildlife—think sloths hanging languidly from branches and toucans in vivid hues. With the guidance of local experts, children and adults alike can discover the hidden wonders of the rainforest in an interactive manner, turning the sense of wonder into a lifelong appreciation and understanding of the environment.

Otavalo: Embrace Cultural Richness

The bustling Otavalo Market offers families a vibrant encounter with Ecuador's indigenous culture. Located north of the capital Quito, this market is a colourful tapestry of crafts, textiles, and artisanal foods—a true feast for the senses. Children will be fascinated by the diverse range of goods on display, from woven tapestries and hand-carved wooden trinkets to local delicacies like fried plantains. Beyond souvenirs, Otavalo is also about storytelling; many of the artisans are more than happy to share the tales and traditions behind their crafts.

Quito: History Around Every Corner

As one of the first cities to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, Quito stands as a monument to Ecuador's colonial past. A family stroll through its cobblestone streets reveals a treasure trove of architectural gems, including grand cathedrals and well-preserved squares. For families, a guided tour can offer insight into the city’s layered history, covering everything from its Incan roots to Spanish influences. Quito also presents an ideal opportunity for kids to learn history in an engaging way—through the stories hidden in its walls and pathways.

Galápagos Islands: Nature's Masterpiece

No trip to Ecuador would be complete without venturing to the Galápagos Islands, a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts of all ages. Known for their startling biological diversity, the islands offer a chance to view species found nowhere else on Earth. Envision your family snorkelling with sea lions, observing giant tortoises in their natural habitat, or frolicking in the surf alongside playful dolphins. The Galápagos represent more than a destination; they are a journey into a world where nature takes centre stage, offering hands-on lessons about conservation and biodiversity.

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

Goway helped plan our two week trip to Peru and they (Virginia in particular) did a great job. The on-site logistics with Condor Travel went very smoothly, and the trip exceeded our expectations overall. They proactively suggested changes to our initial itinerary which were welcomed. I would recommend them and would work with them again in the future.Kate O'Neill

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
