The Allure of Sydney: Urban Exploration

Each journey to Australia begins uniquely, but Sydney often emerges as a captivating starting point for solo vacations to Australia. Its iconic Opera House, perched elegantly on the harbour, is a sight to behold. Whether you’re getting lost in the hum of the bustling city at Circular Quay or absorbing history at The Rocks, Sydney offers a blend of modern and historical attractions to explore at your own pace. Satisfy your craving for adventure by scaling the Harbour Bridge for a panoramic view of this sparkling cityscape — a quintessential experience for any solo itinerary.

Wandering Through Melbourne’s Laneways

Solo travel does not have to be lonely, particularly in the eclectic streets of Melbourne. Known for its artistic streetscapes and hidden cafés, there’s much to savour in Australia’s cultural capital. Engage with the local baristas, or explore the myriad galleries and unabashedly artistic alleyways — like Hosier Lane — known for their vibrant street art. Melbourne’s welcoming atmosphere ensures every solo traveller feels at home. Whether you're craving music, art, or an intimate dining experience, Melbourne subtly weaves itself into your solo travel tale.

Embracing Nature in the Great Barrier Reef

For those drawn to underwater worlds, the Great Barrier Reef offers an unparalleled opportunity. Dive into its crystal-clear waters, abundant with marine life, or simply snorkel along its diverse coral reefs. This natural wonder’s breathtaking biodiversity renders it a must-see on any Australia vacations itinerary. Eco-friendly tours are a fantastic option for solo explorers eager to indulge in marine conservation while learning from passionate guides.

Finding Solitude in the Outback

The expansive Outback offers a profound silence and solitude unmatched elsewhere. Travelling solo to Australia’s heartland provides an introspective experience. As you traverse the iconic Red Centre, Uluru stands majestically against the open skies, fostering a deep connection with this ancient landscape. Joining a guided tour can enhance your journey, allowing you to appreciate Aboriginal culture and learn about the spiritual significance of this revered monolith.

Exploring the Rainforests of Queensland

For a nature-infused solo retreat, head to the rainforests of Queensland. These lush havens, older than the Amazon, extend a warm invitation to solo travellers eager to explore their diverse ecosystems. Navigate through the Daintree Rainforest, where ancient flora and fauna abound, or embark on a walking tour with knowledgeable guides who unveil the region’s secrets and traditions.

Culinary Adventures Across Australia

An integral part of any solo travel to Australia is indulging in its diverse culinary offerings. In Sydney, relish in fresh seafood delights; taste the passion fruit pavlova in Melbourne; or savour bush tucker-inspired cuisine in the Northern Territory. Each region offers its unique flavours and gourmet experiences, perfect for culinary enthusiasts. Solo dining is met with warm hospitality across the country, turning every meal into an opportunity to meet locals and fellow travellers alike.

Practical Tips for Solo Travel in Australia

  • Connectivity: Stay connected with prepaid SIM cards available at airports and convenience stores throughout Australia.
  • Safety: Australia is generally safe for solo travel; however, remain vigilant in remote areas and adhere to local guidelines.
  • Transportation: Benefit from the excellent public transport networks in cities and consider hiring a car for more remote explorations.
  • Travel Light: Pack comfortably for varied climates but keep space for souvenirs from your travels.
  • Respect the Culture: Engage with Indigenous cultural experiences respectfully, embracing the rich history and stories shared.

Embarking on a solo journey through Australia opens a world of diverse landscapes and cultural insights, each offering a chapter in your personal travel story. Whether navigating urban jungles or sprawling red deserts, solo vacations to Australia cater to the curious and the introspective alike, promising adventures that resonate longer after the journey ends. Relish every moment, savour every experience, and let Australia become a cherished destination in your travel diary.

Sydney and Melbourne are a great combination for first-time visitors to Australia, with Brisbane, Adelaide and/or the Outback added in, depending on how much time you have. Returnees should take in Perth, Darwin and the Kakadu National Park area and/or Tasmania if they can, plus spend some time in the cities they loved the first time around

We recently traveled to Portugal and had the most wonderful experience. As our first venture overseas, we decided to search online for travel assistance. We happened across Goway Travel and are so glad we did! Michael Keon, our Destination Specialist, is extremely proficient and knowledgeable in his profession. "Thorough" is an understatement. He assisted every step of the way from the moment we stepped on our flights, transfer arrangements, hotel accommodations, train travel and multiple tours/outings tailored to our specific needs/wish list. He provided unparalleled guidance and support during the planning process and was always available to discuss any questions/concerns. His communications were always prompt and concise. Without a doubt, our best trip to date...there will be no hesitation to contact Mr. Keon for future travels. Joanna Lynn Mays Michael Andrew Mays Joanna Mays

What made this experience great was Cedric Wai. Had a client going to Asia and this is Cedric's wheelhouse since he is from there. Everything was wonderful. Everything went smoothly. The individual tours were wonderful and all the guides were exceptional. A lot of traveling-the flight was very good on Cathay Pacific would highly recommend their airline seats were comfortable and spaced well. Being on an airplane for 16 hours sucks in general, but other than being a little sore from being stuck in one place all was good. Thank you so much for all your help and the trip was wonderful and everything that it should be! Next trip will be much more relaxing, sitting still for a while on a beach somewhere ha ha!Careen Sullivan

My destination specialist, Katie Stephenson was amazing from the onset. Her customer service, communication style and planning skills was so timely and top notch. Our trip was to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, from Aug 4-22, 2026. The way she planned and booked the trip makes the experience convenient and enjoyable. The flexibility of payment makes the decision faster and attractive. Everything we need to know including contacts were readily available within our travel documents itinerary. Overall, I'll say it's money well spent and a lifetime experience particularly for my kids.Festus

We went on a highly customized comprehensive (though quick tour) of England and a bit of Scotland through Goway. Ingrid Aird did an amazing job of planning and arranging every detail with her deep experience, insight, thoughtfulness and creativity, tuning into the needs of each traveler; and she did so even though our decision to travel was rather spontaneous and last minute! Our family had the best time! We look forward to working with Ingrid and Goway again!Vilja Breiling
