Welcome to Zambia, a country adorned with breathtaking landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage that promises an astounding escape from the mundane. For those seeking an adventure-filled getaway, exploring the most popular places to visit in Zambia is nothing short of magical. With diverse wildlife, stunning waterfalls, and welcoming locals, Zambia offers a unique blend of experiences waiting to be discovered.

Victoria Falls: A Natural Wonder

No journey to Zambia is complete without witnessing the majestic Victoria Falls, locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or “The Smoke That Thunders.” This awe-inspiring natural wonder, one of the world’s largest waterfalls, straddles the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Standing in its presence, engulfed by the mist and the roaring sound of water, is an exhilarating experience. For an unforgettable adventure, take a helicopter tour to admire the falls from the skies or dive into the Devil's Pool during the dry season, if you're feeling brave.

South Luangwa National Park: A Wildlife Haven

In the heart of Zambia, South Luangwa National Park beckons nature enthusiasts with its diverse ecosystems and rich wildlife. Known for its remarkable walking safaris, this scenic haven allows visitors to immerse themselves in the wild, guided by expert rangers. It's an opportunity to observe various species, including elephants, giraffes, and hippos, in their natural habitat. For photographers, the park offers ample opportunities to capture the captivating beauty of Zambia’s wildlife.

Lower Zambezi National Park: Paradise for Fishermen

On the banks of the Zambezi River, the Lower Zambezi National Park is another gem in Zambia's rich tapestry of natural beauty. The park, renowned for its canoe safaris, provides visitors with an intimate experience with the wilderness, paddling alongside elephants and watching as herds of antelope graze. Anglers will find this destination delightful, thanks to the thriving tiger fish and bream population. With the backdrop of the mature Zambezi escarpment, the sunsets here are absolutely picturesque.

The Rich Tapestry of Zambian Culture

Zambia’s rich cultural diversity offers another layer of depth to your travels. With over 70 ethnic groups, the nation celebrates a multitude of traditional ceremonies and festivities. Immerse yourself in one such experience at the Kuomboka Ceremony of the Lozi people, a vibrant spectacle marking the movement of the king from the floodplains of the Zambezi. Partaking in these cultural celebrations offers a glimpse into the nation's soul, highlighted by music, dance, and storytelling.

Culinary Delights: Taste of Zambia

No journey is complete without savouring local cuisine, and Zambia is replete with unique culinary delights. Sample nshima, the staple food made from ground maize, which is often accompanied by stews of vegetables and meats. Experiencing local markets provides a culinary adventure too, where you might discover delicacies like ifisashi (peanut and vegetable stew) and sample fresh local fruits. Exploring these flavours is one of the best travel recommendations in Zambia, offering insight into the country's everyday life.

Travel Tips for Your Zambian Adventure

To make the most out of your Zambian adventure, consider visiting during the dry season (May to October), when the wildlife is easier to spot due to the sparse foliage, and the roads are more accessible. Tours of Zambia are varied, ranging from organized group tours to tailor-made itineraries that cater to individual preferences. Whether you're trekking through a national park, embarking on a cultural exploration, or simply relaxing by the Zambezi River, planning ahead ensures a smooth and memorable journey.

Why Zambia?

Zambia is an untouched paradise offering a unique blend of tranquillity and adventure. Its pristine wilderness, hospitable people, and rich cultural tapestry make it a must-visit destination for anyone with a spirit of exploration and a love for natural beauty. Whether it’s witnessing the power of Victoria Falls, engaging in the rich cultural traditions, or simply savouring the delightful Zambian cuisine, each moment spent here is a new chapter waiting to be written. So pack your bags and set off on a journey through Zambia where nature's grandeur and cultural depth promise an unforgettable experience.

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

Goway helped plan our two week trip to Peru and they (Virginia in particular) did a great job. The on-site logistics with Condor Travel went very smoothly, and the trip exceeded our expectations overall. They proactively suggested changes to our initial itinerary which were welcomed. I would recommend them and would work with them again in the future.Kate O'Neill

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
