Multi-country travel is more than just squeezing in extra destinations and experiences into a single trip. It's about expressing your travel style and creating personalized journeys that reflect who you are as a globetrotter.

While it shines in efficiency, reducing repeat travel costs and simplifying logistics, its greatest strength lies in the art of pairing destinations, like a perfect wine and cheese, for a richer, more memorable experience.

Travel, like gastronomy, is an art, with the best results coming from your creativity and imagination. With that spirit in mind, we've put together three of our favourite unexpected multi-country pairings and combinations to spark your imagination as a globetrotter and inspire your next multi-country journey.

Japan & South Korea

Some multi-country duos feel like they're meant to be, and Japan and South Korea are the perfect example. At first glance, this pair may not seem like an unexpected combination. Close neighbours with deep historical ties and major global influence. But what makes this duo unexpectedly enticing is how different both countries feel when you're visiting.

The contrasts may be subtle, but they're striking: the serene minimalism of Kyoto's temples stands in sharp contrast to Seoul's vibrant, fast-paced cosmopolitan streets and fearless creativity. Additionnaly, Japan is roughly four times the size of South Korea, with parts of Japan enjoying different climates throughout the year. You could soak in a snow-covered onsen in Hokkaido, then wander through Okinawa's subtropical jungles before hiking through Jeju Island’s lava tubes and coastal trails. Exploring these neighbouring countries together on a single journey reveals the distinct cultures, scenery, and personalities in a way only travel can.

One of the most delicious examples is the abundance and diversity of incredible culinary experiences offered in both countries. Savour artisanal sushi and delicate kaiseki meals in Japan, then indulge in the smoky, communal flavours of sizzling Korean BBQ and delicious street food in South Korea. These distinct flavours and tastes of adventure perfectly complement the countries’ unique culture and history.

Czech Republic, Germany, & the Netherlands

The Czech Republic, Germany, and the Netherlands create a surprising yet seamless path through Central and Western Europe, connecting distinct yet complementary experiences. This three-country journey takes you from the fairy-tale charm of the Czech Republic through Germany's rich history and dynamic culture to the fresh, design-forward energy of the Netherlands, offering globetrotters a unique mix of medieval architecture, exciting cities, and innovative art scenes.

Begin in Prague, where Gothic architecture and vibrant art scenes immerse you in a captivating atmosphere. Travel through Germany's contrasts, from medieval towns and romantic river valleys to Berlin's cutting-edge creativity. Finally, arrive in the Netherlands, where Amsterdam's canals and innovative design meet charming cities like Utrecht.

This route is perfect for travellers eager to go beyond Western Europe's usual highlights and discover a blend of old-world elegance and modern culture. Well-connected by rail and short flights, it offers ease without sacrificing depth. This trio provides an exciting twist on classic European travel. It showcases three countries that surprise globetrotters with their unique identities and cultural depth. It is ideal for globetrotters seeking history, urban exploration, and authentic off-the-beaten-path experiences.

Belize & Guatemala

Belize and Guatemala offer globetrotters an array of unexpected journeys stretching from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific coastline, delivering a depth of experiences rivalling the best multi-country adventures. Additionally, as neighbours, travelling between these two countries is seamless and easy. Short land crossings connect you to Belize’s blissful relaxation, coastal adventures, and Guatemala’s history and highland beauty.

Great Blue Hole Belize

This duo is ideal for curious and culturally motivated globetrotters seeking immersive nature experiences and adventure. In Belize, you’ll snorkel the world’s second-largest barrier reef, relax on palm-fringed cayes, and adventure into lush rainforests where you’ll find hidden Mayas ruins like Caracol. Once you cross into Guatemala, the scene transforms into misty mountains, colonial towns, and colourful indigenous markets rich with tradition. Iconic Mayna sites like Tikal, the cobbled streets of Antigua, and the volcanic terrain surrounding Lake Atitlan create an atmosphere of discovery, where ancient civilizations and vibrant culture unfold in front of a breathtaking backdrop of natural beauty.
