The statue's name, Liberty, comes from the Roman goddess Libertas, who symbolizes freedom. Libertas was depicted on Roman coins during Julius Caesar's time, representing support for the Republic.
To visit the Statue of Liberty, you may take the ferry from Liberty State Park in New Jersey or Battery Park in Manhattan. Statue City Cruises is the authorized ferry service provider. There is mandatory security screening, which is similar to airport security screenings.
