The Best Diving Sites in Fiji

Tell me more

Fiji is known for its palm-fringed beaches, lush rainforests, and cascading waterfalls, yet its spectacular underwater world makes it a prime place to travel on a tropical vacation. Diving is becoming increasingly popular in Fiji, so much so that the island nation is now known as the Soft Coral Capital of the World. Here, novice and expert divers can explore nutrient-rich waters alive with colourful sea life. Around 1,000 species of fish and several hundred types of coral live off the sparkling shores of Fiji, attracting Grey Reef sharks, manta rays, five species of turtles, and a multitude of colourful fish that you can swim with.

Fiji offers year-round diving with good visibility and a range of accommodations to suit any budget. Go diving and stay in a stunning 5-star resort or a moderate guesthouse, or experience a liveaboard (a boat that provides overnight accommodation and dive instructors). You’ll submerge yourself in an unforgettable aquatic adventure. Here are the best places to go diving on your Fiji vacation.

1. Koro Sea, Bligh Water

Named after the famous Captain Bligh of The Bounty, the Bligh Waters are a stretch of sea that separates Fiji’s two main islands of Vanua Levu and Viti Levu. This is a popular area to dive via a liveaboard. A liveaboard can move between the islands, allowing you to spot schooling barracuda, hammerhead sharks, and eagle rays as you enter The Cathedral – an awesome swim-through with light filtering down from above.

2. Kadavu Island

Kadavu is one of the less visited islands of Fiji, precisely why you should go there. You can explore an amazing coral reef approximately 62 mi (100 km) long, making it the fourth largest barrier reef in the world, with easy access. Kadavu is home to the Great Astrolabe Reef, which features several underwater passages, submerged pinnacles, and manta ray cleaning stations. It’s a bit off the beaten path, and there are no major resort chains here, so you’ll get a more authentic Fijian feel. Many of the bays nestled along the Kadavu Island coastline are also perfect for sea-kayaking, swimming, and snorkelling.

3. Taveuni

Taveuni is known as the Garden Island, and the place is an eco-tourist’s dream. The world-famous Somosomo Strait, Great White Wall, and Rainbow Reef attract divers from across the globe with their dazzling corals and diverse marine life. Dotted around the island’s perimeter are black-sand beaches. Nearby islands of Laucala, Matagi, and Qamea have stunning white beaches and luxury resorts, a perfect base for your Fiji vacation.

4. Viti Levu – Beqa Lagoon

The main island Viti Levu’s dive sites are the easiest to access when you arrive in Fiji and are privy to a truly awesome shark-feeding dive for experienced scuba divers and thrill seekers. Viti Levu’s fabulous resorts are only an hour or two’s drive from the hub city of Nadi, whether you travel to the north coast area of Rakiraki or the south coast’s Pacific Harbour.

The world-renowned Beqa Lagoon offers some spectacular resort diving. The Beqa Lagoon has an awe-inspiring variety of marine life and is a popular location for less experienced divers and those with fewer vacation days. Here, you can go shark diving with over 100 dive sites, including walls, wrecks, and bommies (pinnacles). Most Fiji resorts here offer diving as an excursion you can book locally.

Happy diving!

For first-time visitors, I suggest splitting their stay to experience a few nights at a resort along the Coral Coast, where they could experience a visit to a local village, then end their trip at one of the islands in the Mamanucas to experience some different beaches and activities. For returning visitors, I recommend exploring a different group of islands, such as heading to one of the Northern Islands, which is a short flight from Nadi.

As a travel agent, it was very easy to work with Goway. They were very responsive, especially Osvaldo Gonzalez, even when the client wanted to make in-destination changes a day or two prior. My clients absolutely enjoyed everything about their trip to Costa Rica - they specifically mentioned that all the drivers and guides they had were excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to use Goway again for a custom trip to Costa Rica. Shawna Woods Roy

We, three couples, all enjoyed our time in Peru, despite the small amount of time we had, and the fact one person had injury while on the cruise prior to arriving in Lima. We did want to experience Machu Picchu without spending as many days as others usually do, since we had been traveling prior to that already. Kajal at Goway was able to tailor a well packed three-day private tour for our small group of six. Every detail, from the moment we got off the cruise ship, to Cusco, to Machu Picchu, and back to Lima airport hotel, was well taken care of. Kajal was very efficient in helping with the requested itinerary, and in staying on desired budget, as well answered all questions in timely fashion. We were able to accomplish what we were not sure if possible, all thanks to Kajal at Goway. Our experience in Peru was very positive. We felt the tours organized by Goway had enabled us to have great and impressive exposure to Peruvian culture and important historical sights - all 31 hours in 3 days!!! Condor Travel in Peru took care of us every step of the way. Every person we came across was very courteous, willing, and helpful. Help was always there and questions answered quickly via Whatsapp. All in all a great and positive experience we would highly recommend.KM

Mary G. was an absolute pleasure to work with. I partner with Goway often for Europe and typically have my go to rep, so stepping outside of that for a New Zealand itinerary had me a little unsure at first. That hesitation quickly disappeared. Mary stepped in with confidence, handled all of my moving pieces with ease, and truly understood the level of detail I needed to take care of my clients. She delivered a beautifully curated itinerary that exceeded expectations, and most importantly, my clients had an incredible experience in New Zealand. I’m so grateful to have her as a resource and look forward to working together again.Nichole Pierce

Joanna was amazing!!! She was able to set up a ten day trip for me in Sydney in a matter of a couple of weeks. All accommodation and tours were amazing and the 24 hour help center was great and where able to call up the tour company and have them come and still pick be up when I had a mixup with the reservation. Would definitely recommend Goway to any friends and family and will definitely be using them again.Erica Wolff

I cannot sing Erin’s praises enough! She planned an action-packed two-week New Zealand itinerary that hit every single stop on our bucket list. Every experience was truly first-class and luxurious. While I found myself being price-conscious initially, once I saw the incredible quality of the experiences she curated, I knew it was going to be the trip of a lifetime. A huge thank you to Erin and Go Way Travel for making my 50th birthday so epic. We’ll definitely be reaching out for our next big adventure!Michelle

I booked this trip to Adelaide with Goway, after using them before when we explored the 'big' sites of Australia. This time, we went to Adelaide to go to three of the top wine growing areas for wine tastings. We were a small group of 4 people. It was made better as the vendor used Small Batch Wine Tours for all of our excursions. They were fantastic making us the only travelers on these tours. Matthew, the owner, even adjusted our wineries on the last day to go to different place. This place totally marked off everything we were looking for in wine. Ended up buying a couple of bottles. Between Goway setting it up and Small Batch Wine Tours running the actual tours we had a beautiful and seamless trip. not applicable
