Imagine a land where the lush greenery of tropical rainforests, the mysterious allure of ancient ruins, and the vibrant energy of modern cities coexist in a single breathtaking panorama. Welcome to Colombia, a captivating country in South America, offering a tapestry of experiences to both the seasoned globetrotter and the curious novice. When considering the best places to travel in Colombia, you'll find a plethora of destinations that embody the essence of adventure and discovery.

Exploring the Vibrancy of Bogotá

Begin your Colombian journey in its bustling capital, Bogotá. Nestled high in the Andes, Bogotá is a vibrant metropolis where colonial history meets contemporary culture. Stroll through La Candelaria, the city's historic heart, home to colourful houses, cobbled streets, and the striking Gold Museum. This cultural hub offers an evocative look into Colombia's past, showcasing fascinating artefacts from the pre-Hispanic period.

As dusk falls, Bogotá transforms. Zona G, renowned for its gourmet dining, invites you to savour Colombian cuisine infused with international flavours. Whether you're indulging in a traditional ajiaco or sampling exotic dishes like hormiga culona, Bogotá’s gastronomic landscape is sure to thrill.

Cartagena's Coastal Enchantment

On the Caribbean coast lies Cartagena, a city abundant with tales of pirates and hidden treasures. Enclosed by ancient walls, its historic old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, where pastel-coloured façades and romantic balconies create a picturesque setting. Here, horse-drawn carriages navigate the charming streets, bringing the city’s colonial allure to life.

The nearby Rosario Islands offer a perfect escape for sun-seekers. With pristine beaches and clear coral-rich waters, these islands are ideal for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts eager to explore vibrant marine life. For the best beach experience, swing by Playa Blanca on Isla Barú for powdery sands and azure waves.

The Magical Andes of Medellín

Once synonymous with crime and conflict, Medellín has rebranded itself as an innovative city of the future. Crowned the "City of Eternal Spring," its pleasant climate and green mountains invite exploration. The Metrocable, an aerial gondola, presents breathtaking panoramas as it ascends the lush Andes surrounding Medellín.

Visit the Comuna 13 district, a striking symbol of the city's transformation. Here, vibrant street art and public escalators tell stories of resilience and renewal. Medellín’s Flower Festival, held annually, is a testament to local culture, where colourful parades and elaborate flower displays highlight the city’s dynamic spirit.

Nature's Resplendence in the Coffee Regions

No tour of Colombia is complete without a sojourn in the Coffee Triangle, home to some of the best places to visit in Colombia for coffee aficionados. This fertile region, adorned with emerald hillsides and coffee plantations, offers insight into Colombia's world-famous coffee culture. Stay at a traditional hacienda to immerse yourself in coffee production, from bean to cup.

The Cocora Valley, nearby, boasts some of the tallest wax palm trees in the world. Trekking through this serene landscape is an unforgettable experience, with the misty mountains providing a dramatic backdrop. Salento, a quaint town in this region, enchants visitors with its colourful architecture and hearty local cuisine.

San Agustín's Archeological Wonders

For those with a thirst for history, the archeological park of San Agustín offers a journey into Colombia’s ancient past. This UNESCO site is dotted with mysterious stone carvings and tombs, remnants of a civilization that vanished long ago. Exploring these archeological wonders amidst verdant landscapes provides a sense of connection to Colombia’s deep-rooted heritage.

Island Escapades to Leticia

In southern Colombia, Leticia serves as a gateway to the Amazon rainforest. This frontier town beckons adventurers looking to delve into one of Earth's most biodiverse ecosystems. Join a guided tour to explore the rainforest, where eagles soar overhead and elusive jaguars roam under the canopy.

Leticia’s proximity to the “meeting of the waters,” where the Rio Negro and Solimões rivers converge, is a marker of nature's mesmerising power. Here, a sunset cruise offers a tranquil end to a day of exploration.

Considering the tours of Colombia, the country unveils mesmerizing sights at every turn, from its bustling urban capitals to its serene rural retreats. The charm and mystery of Colombia are bound to inspire your next travel adventure, making it a must-visit destination for those eager to witness nature’s splendor interwoven with rich cultural tapestries. So, pack your bags and experience a journey like no other.

You should try a Zen meditation session. Imagine slipping into a silk kimono for the day—carefully tied by an expert dresser, every fold precise, every colour chosen to suit the season. It’s a ritual that feels as personal as it is timeless.

What do I love about Japan? In a word - EVERYTHING. The incredible contrast that Japan offers - new/innovative vs old/traditional, the warm and welcoming people, the incredible rich culture, the culinary wonders awaiting around every corner, the cleanliness, efficiency and safety. It's one of the best places to visit in Asia in my opinion.

Pub Street in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is a local favourite with very inexpensive drinks. It's also a great place to try the local delicacy, BBQ frog.

I love how laidback and relaxed Laos is compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. It's like the best of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand all rolled into one, and then sent back in time 20 to 30 years.

Everything was expertly planned, from the drivers to the hotels to the tours to the flights. We particularly enjoyed Hobart and the animal sanctuary, Adelaide and the trip to Kangaroo Island, Melbourne and the evening tour with dinner and drinks, and Sydney with the private boat cruise of the Harbour. We will definitely use Goway again.SARA Wiebe

There were 4 travelers on this trip. All of us were in our late 70's. We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was. Would definately use Goway for our travel needs in the future.Dianne

After spending some time with our agent, we felt that she understood exactly what we had in mind as far as the level of service, etc, we were hoping for. The trip exceeded our expectations. Lori kept us busy(not too busy!) and we had many, many very exciting experiences. Bruce Belshaw

Aylin is an exceptionally proficient advisor. Coordinating my clients simultaneously often feels like herding cats, but she has remained patient and accommodating through every modification and delay. Goway continues to be my go-to for complex itineraries, and they never disappoint.Nick Cron, ACC

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 weeks in New Zealand! The country is so beautiful and the people so friendly. Our destination specialist did a great job with planning and organizing the itinerary, choosing our hotels, and organizing transportation. The hotels were absolutely beautiful and we had great views. We felt right at home and found all of the staff to be friendly and accommodating. There were no issues with our itinerary and our excursions we were always on the list. Our transportation was always ready and waiting for us. We want to thank Goway Travel for their hard work and patience with us in planning this trip. Any changes that needed to be made were communicated timely. We also want to thank you for the beautiful weather during the entire 2 weeks it was perfect every day 😀. It was a memorable trip that we will never forget and we will think of Goway when we plan our next adventure. Because it was not just a vacation; it was an adventure!Connie Wenhardt

Brigitta Fuller is Amazing! She was my group coordinator. She understood the assignment and all the nuances I was trying to achieve. The itinerary she curated was fantastic. If you want someone who truly cares about her group and what they are trying to achieve. I will always reach out to Brigitta first for Europe groups. Kathryn Walker

My clients had a wonderful time on their trip to Easter Island. They were very pleased with the Hare Nua Hotel Boutique and especially noted the warmth and hospitality of the hotel staff as well as their excellent breakfasts. Jaime Vargas-Hendandez was an exceptionally gracious and knowledgeable agent, who went out of his way to ensure that my clients had the best possible experience. I will definitely contact him for future bookings and will recommend him to my colleagues.Alethea Kardas
