Overview

Take a trip to Mahe Island on your Seychelles Vacation

Mahe is the largest and principal island in Seychelles, one of 115. In fact, almost 90% of the population resides here. This idyllically beautiful island has an outstandingly attractive coastline dotted with wonderful sandy beaches and picturesque coves. Mahe has more rain than the other low-lying islands but this also accounts for its rich vegetation and a tropical downpour is often a spectacular event on a Seychelles vacation

The capital is Victoria with its neat, tree-lined streets, a colourful local market, a few simple souvenir stores and a handful of bars and restaurants. One interesting edifice here is the Victoria clock tower, a replica of Big Ben in London. There are a few museums which include the National Museum of History, and the Museum of Natural History. One should explore the market which is bustling and colourful and where one can purchase everything from fruit to souvenirs.

Inland, the Morne Seychelles National Park is densely forested and covers around 20% of the island. There are some interesting trails to walk along. One can also see some endemic plants such as the “Jellyfish Tree” and unique rare orchids. The highest peak on the island is the cloud covered Morne Seychellois situated in the park.

Beau Vallon is Mahe’s best-known and most popular beach with its palm-fringed beaches and mountain backdrop. It is a good centre for snorkeling and diving. One can snorkel or dive with whale sharks at the underwater dive centre.

I love learning about Nicaragua's culture and experiencing its Spanish influence in some cities. I was only there for five days, but I'll never forget how delicious the food was and how welcoming and extremely polite the people were.

The Day of the Dead in Guatemala is a great local tradition where people gather to fly giant, intricately decorated kites to honour the dead.

The colourful Spanish architecture, the beautiful scenery, particularly the stunning lakes, and the Mayan ruins are what I love most about Guatemala!
