Kockska Huset is one of the most impressive buildings in Malmo's Old Town, constructed in 1522, comprising two stately buildings dominating the northwest corner of Stortorget. Malmo witnessed a cosmopolitan change in the late 1990s, marked by a surge in contemporary architecture and the revitalization of waterfront areas, transforming the cityscape into a dynamic and modern urban hub. Witness this transformation at Vastra Hamnen, the reimagined waterfront featuring the iconic Turning Torso, a futuristic, twisting skyscraper proudly claiming the title of Scandinavia's tallest building since its completion in 2005.
Delving into Gamla Vaster, an enclave of tranquillity with galleries, design shops, and refined eateries, will immerse you in the city's oldest architecture, telling tales of Malmo's bygone eras. Festival de Los Farolitos is an annual nighttime festival held every September in the town of Ataco, where the streets, houses, and plazas are illuminated with thousands of handmade lanterns (farolitos). Families craft them using colored paper, wood, calabash gourds, or jars, each with a candle inside. Although it's tied to the eve of the Virgin Mary’s birthday, it has evolved into a cultural celebration of community, light, creativity, and town pride.
