Overview
Take a trip to Trevi Fountain on your Italy Vacation
Oh, to be proposed to at the Trevi Fountain! Rome's most beautiful fountain is also its most romantic. Built in the 18th century under Pope Nicholas V, the fountain is located at the meeting point of three streets (Tre Vie means three ways) in the city centre. It is a stunning structure built in baroque style, and at 66 ft (20 m) in width and 85 ft (25 M) in height, unmissable during a stroll of the city.
The fountain is a premier tourist attraction. There are always people taking photos near it and throwing coins in it. According to popular myth, if you throw one coin in the Trevi Fountain, you will return to Rome; if you throw two coins, true love will come to you; and if you throw three coins, you will marry the person you meet. As a site for surprise proposals, the fountain brings cheer and happy tears. But mind the crowd! The area is thronging with tourists during the afternoons and early evenings. Early morning is the best time to visit, followed by late evening.
