The Ring of Kerry: An Iconic Journey

The Ring of Kerry is perhaps the most renowned road trip route in Ireland, and for good reason. This 179-kilometre circular route around the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry showcases the sheer beauty of the Irish landscape. Imagine driving through verdant valleys and along rugged coastlines teeming with charming villages and ancient ruins, each holding their own stories from the past. Highlights include Killarney National Park, where one can meander through sublime lakes and majestic mountains, and the Skellig Ring, a detour that offers stunning vistas of the Skellig Islands, part of the Star Wars saga.

Wild Atlantic Way: A Scenic Coastal Adventure

Stretching over 2,500 kilometres from Donegal to Cork, the Wild Atlantic Way is one of the longest defined coastal routes in the world. This journey is ideal for travellers who wish to embrace the rugged beauty of Ireland’s west coast. Begin your travels in the dramatic landscapes of Donegal, where jaw-dropping cliffs meet the sea, then weave your way south. Each county along the route offers its own unique flavour; from the musical heartland of Galway to the surf capital of Bundoran, the Wild Atlantic Way is a sensory feast. Discover historical sites like the ancient Cliffs of Moher and the bustling streets of Galway City with their vibrant music scene.

The Causeway Coastal Route: Spectacular Northern Views

Heading north, the Causeway Coastal Route is a must for any traveller on trips to Ireland, showcasing some of the most spectacular views in the country. This route takes you from Belfast to Londonderry, along a stunning coastline that includes the otherworldly Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its unique hexagonal basalt columns. Not to be missed is the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge—venture across if you dare for a breathtaking perspective of the coastline. As you pass through quaint villages like Cushendun and discover the history of Dunluce Castle, the beauty of Northern Ireland will unfold before you.

Exploring the Heartlands: Ireland’s Hidden Gems

For those looking to explore off the beaten path, consider a road trip through Ireland’s Ancient East. This area offers a treasure trove of history and culture, dotted with stone circles, medieval monasteries, and fortified towns. Begin your journey in Dublin, then travel to the charming town of Kilkenny, known for its medieval cobblestone streets. Continue to the Glendalough monastic site in County Wicklow, where scenic walks await in a glacial valley. Delve deeper into Ireland’s past at the Rock of Cashel, a spectacular limestone hill crowned with medieval remains.

Taste the Flavours of Ireland

No road trip in Ireland would be complete without indulging in its culinary delights. Imagine stopping at cozy pubs serving comforting Irish stew, sampling fresh seafood at a seaside cafe, or savoring the creamy richness of an authentic Irish coffee. Each region offers its own specialties, often made using fresh, local ingredients. In Cork, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the English Market, a foodie’s paradise offering everything from artisan cheeses to traditional black pudding.

A journey through Ireland is not just a physical journey, but an ethereal experience that connects you with the very essence of this magical land. Whether you're driving along its breathtaking coastlines, exploring its ancient heartlands, or tasting its rich culinary offerings, an Ireland road trip promises memories that will last a lifetime. Pack your bags, chart your course, and let the Emerald Isle weave its spell on you.

St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) is always a great time to experience Irish culture at its most festive. And for something unique, visit during Halloween, or as we call it, Oíche Shamhna. Halloween actually originated in Ireland as a pagan festival, and many towns still celebrate with local traditions and festivals

There are plenty of castle stays in Ireland, along with many unique and memorable accommodations. You can sleep under the stars in the Finn Lough Bubble Domes in County Fermanagh, stay in a converted lighthouse, or unwind at the Ice House Hotel & Spa in Ballina, County Mayo just to name a few

Two tips for first time visitors: The weather is famously unpredictable so always pack layers and a rain jacket, no matter the season, and Ireland runs on a relaxed pace, so don’t be surprised if things are a bit slower than you're used to especially in rural areas

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

Goway helped plan our two week trip to Peru and they (Virginia in particular) did a great job. The on-site logistics with Condor Travel went very smoothly, and the trip exceeded our expectations overall. They proactively suggested changes to our initial itinerary which were welcomed. I would recommend them and would work with them again in the future.Kate O'Neill

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
