Take a trip to Fisherman’s Bastion on your Hungary Vacation
Fisherman's Bastion stands as a renowned landmark in Budapest, nestled near Buda Castle in the city's 1st district. Constructed between 1895 and 1902, it commemorates Hungary's millennium. Designed in a Neo-Romanesque style reminiscent of the early medieval era, it evokes the spirit of the country's first king. The Bastion's creation aimed to blend historical charm with enchanting surroundings, offering locals and visitors a fairytale-like experience. Unlike traditional castles, its walls and palace feature a thinner construction, reflecting its romantic inspiration.
Accessing the Fisherman's Bastion can be done in two ways. You can take the dedicated Buda Castle bus or the Funicular, providing a convenient journey to Holy Trinity Square. Alternatively, you can go on a more adventurous trek, starting from the Danube riverbank via numerous steps, ultimately reaching the historic Bastion and enjoying breathtaking views of Budapest along the way.

Festival de Los Farolitos is an annual nighttime festival held every September in the town of Ataco, where the streets, houses, and plazas are illuminated with thousands of handmade lanterns (farolitos). Families craft them using colored paper, wood, calabash gourds, or jars, each with a candle inside. Although it's tied to the eve of the Virgin Mary’s birthday, it has evolved into a cultural celebration of community, light, creativity, and town pride.
