Hungary, nestled in the heart of Europe, offers an unparalleled travel experience, perfect for those crafting their perfect European vacation packages. It’s a land where history and modernity interlace seamlessly, making it one of the best trips to Europe.

Must-Visit Attractions

A journey to Hungary is incomplete without exploring Budapest, the capital city sprawling majestically across both banks of the Danube River. Here, visitors can marvel at Buda Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that stands as a testament to the nation's grandiose past. Stroll across the celebrated Chain Bridge for panoramic views that inspire awe and wonder.

Venture to the Parliament Building, an architectural gem, showcasing Gothic Revival style that captivates visitors. The St. Stephen's Basilica, with its towering dome, offers a perch providing sweeping views of the city, a sight not to miss on any trips to Hungary.

Unique Cultural Experiences

Immerse yourself in Hungary’s rich cultural tapestry with an evening at the Hungarian State Opera House or enjoy traditional folk music and dance. Festivals adorn the calendar throughout the year, from vibrant celebratory events in lush vineyards during the Budapest Wine Festival to spectacular fireworks that illuminate the skies during the National Day on August 20th.

For a serene escape, explore the soothing waters of Lake Balaton, Central Europe’s largest lake, fondly known as the 'Hungarian Sea'. It’s a popular haven for both relaxation and adventure, offering opportunities to sail, hike, or simply enjoy the tranquility of its azure waters.

Culinary Delights

Hungarian cuisine is a feast for the senses, with dishes that evoke the rustic, hearty nature of the land. Indulge in gulyás (goulash), a flavourful stew that tells stories of nomadic herdsmen, or halászlé (fish soup), rich with traditional flavours. For those with a sweet tooth, the delectable rétes (strudel) offers a delightful end to any meal.

Don’t miss trying Hungarian wines. The region’s vineyards produce world-renowned wines, most notably the Tokaji Aszú, delectable with a rich history and a favourite of kings. Enjoy these culinary delights in one of the many cozy restaurants or street markets that dot the cityscape, making your holiday one of the best trips to Europe.

Practical Travel Tips

  • Currency: Hungary uses the Forint (HUF). It's wise to have some cash for small purchases although credit cards are widely accepted.
  • Language: Hungarian is the official language. While English is spoken in major cities, learning a few local phrases could enhance your travel experience.
  • Transportation: Hungary boasts an efficient public transport network, especially in Budapest. Consider a travel card for unlimited access to buses, trams, and the metro.
  • When to Visit: Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) offer pleasant weather and vibrant natural beauty, ideal for exploring countryside and urban landscapes alike.

Encouraging Exploration

Whether you're soaking in a traditional thermal bath or wandering through one of the many charming rural villages, Hungary beckons with its blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. This captivating land promises adventures and memories waiting to be etched into your heart.

Your next unforgettable journey could very well be found within Europe vacation packages, highlighting all the magic Hungary has to offer. Embark on this enchanting odyssey and let the treasures of Hungary unfold before you.

You should try a Zen meditation session. Imagine slipping into a silk kimono for the day—carefully tied by an expert dresser, every fold precise, every colour chosen to suit the season. It’s a ritual that feels as personal as it is timeless.

What do I love about Japan? In a word - EVERYTHING. The incredible contrast that Japan offers - new/innovative vs old/traditional, the warm and welcoming people, the incredible rich culture, the culinary wonders awaiting around every corner, the cleanliness, efficiency and safety. It's one of the best places to visit in Asia in my opinion.

Pub Street in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is a local favourite with very inexpensive drinks. It's also a great place to try the local delicacy, BBQ frog.

I love how laidback and relaxed Laos is compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. It's like the best of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand all rolled into one, and then sent back in time 20 to 30 years.

Everything was expertly planned, from the drivers to the hotels to the tours to the flights. We particularly enjoyed Hobart and the animal sanctuary, Adelaide and the trip to Kangaroo Island, Melbourne and the evening tour with dinner and drinks, and Sydney with the private boat cruise of the Harbour. We will definitely use Goway again.SARA Wiebe

There were 4 travelers on this trip. All of us were in our late 70's. We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was. Would definately use Goway for our travel needs in the future.Dianne

After spending some time with our agent, we felt that she understood exactly what we had in mind as far as the level of service, etc, we were hoping for. The trip exceeded our expectations. Lori kept us busy(not too busy!) and we had many, many very exciting experiences. Bruce Belshaw

Aylin is an exceptionally proficient advisor. Coordinating my clients simultaneously often feels like herding cats, but she has remained patient and accommodating through every modification and delay. Goway continues to be my go-to for complex itineraries, and they never disappoint.Nick Cron, ACC

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 weeks in New Zealand! The country is so beautiful and the people so friendly. Our destination specialist did a great job with planning and organizing the itinerary, choosing our hotels, and organizing transportation. The hotels were absolutely beautiful and we had great views. We felt right at home and found all of the staff to be friendly and accommodating. There were no issues with our itinerary and our excursions we were always on the list. Our transportation was always ready and waiting for us. We want to thank Goway Travel for their hard work and patience with us in planning this trip. Any changes that needed to be made were communicated timely. We also want to thank you for the beautiful weather during the entire 2 weeks it was perfect every day 😀. It was a memorable trip that we will never forget and we will think of Goway when we plan our next adventure. Because it was not just a vacation; it was an adventure!Connie Wenhardt

Brigitta Fuller is Amazing! She was my group coordinator. She understood the assignment and all the nuances I was trying to achieve. The itinerary she curated was fantastic. If you want someone who truly cares about her group and what they are trying to achieve. I will always reach out to Brigitta first for Europe groups. Kathryn Walker

My clients had a wonderful time on their trip to Easter Island. They were very pleased with the Hare Nua Hotel Boutique and especially noted the warmth and hospitality of the hotel staff as well as their excellent breakfasts. Jaime Vargas-Hendandez was an exceptionally gracious and knowledgeable agent, who went out of his way to ensure that my clients had the best possible experience. I will definitely contact him for future bookings and will recommend him to my colleagues.Alethea Kardas
