Take a trip to The Acropolis on your Greece Vacation
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on an outcrop above the city of Athens. It is home to ancient buildings of immense historical and architectural significance, the most famous of which is the Parthenon. The hill has been inhabited since the 4th millennium BC. The Acropolis was a residence of kings, a home to gods, a Christian church, and an Islamic mosque. It underwent major renovations in the mid-20th century.
The Acropolis includes the hill and its several buildings together, which include the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Nike, and Propylaea. Iconic landmarks here include the Odeon of Herodes, an ancient theatre, the ancient Agora of Athens, the best-known example of an ancient Greek agora, and the Stoa of Eumenes, a two-aisled walkway. The Acropolis Museum, located just 984 ft (300 m) away, houses every artifact found on the rock and surrounding areas, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. The Acropolis can get crowded, and more so during peak season. Starting early can help you avoid the crowds. As you'll be exploring on foot, wear comfortable shoes and carry a water bottle to stay hydrated.

We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was.
