Take a trip to Mljet on your Croatia Vacation
Mljet is 37 kilometres/23 miles from Dubrovnik and is reached by ferry from there. Over 2/3rds of the island is covered in forest and half of it is a National Park. The rest is dotted with fields, vineyards and small villages. Mljet has been described as an unspoilt oasis of tranquillity with its lush landscapes and pine forests and is one of the most beautiful of all Croatian islands on a Croatia vacation. It is Croatia's greenest island with a clear and clean blue sea and sandy shoreline. It is rich in underwater marine life and therefore an excellent place for scuba diving enhanced by the crystal-clear water. There are numerous small pebble beaches and swimming spots around the island. The only sandy beaches are at Saplunara which is very quiet and undisturbed.
One major attraction on a Croatia vacation package on the island is Mljet National Park which covers the western half and is very scenic with its two attractive saltwater lakes. The park is almost untouched although the two villages here attract many visitors in the season with their lakeside beaches and ancient historical sites. It is also known for its red and white wines, olives and goat’s cheese. Mljet is an excellent place to rent a bicycle and explore the island.

One of the most memorable traditions travellers should experience in Croatia is the Sinjska Alka. Held every August in the town of Sinj, near Split, it’s a centuries-old knights’ tournament where horsemen in traditional uniforms gallop at full speed trying to spear a small iron ring (“alka”) with their lances
One common misconception travellers have about Croatia is that it’s only about Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian coast. Inland regions like Zagreb, Istria, and Slavonia offer wine routes, truffle hunting, castles, and cultural festivals. Nature is also often overlooked. Beyond the famous Plitvice Lakes, there are mountains for hiking, rivers for rafting, and even thermal spas.
In early fall, the sea is still warm from the summer heat, making it perfect for swimming. Fall is also grape and truffle harvest season, which is ideal for food and wine lovers.
Imagine wine tasting in Brač, where wine is aged underwater among coral, and you can dive to select your bottle!
