Overview

Take a trip to Acapulco on your Mexico vacation.

The port city of Acapulco de Juárez—commonly known as Acapulco—is the largest in the Mexican state of Guerrero and is one of Mexico’s oldest and most popular beach resorts. Nestled in a semi-circular bay along Mexico’s Pacific coast, Acapulco has served as a port since Mexico’s early colonial period and came into prominence as a tourist destination in the 1950s as a playground for famous Hollywood stars, including Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. The city boasts beautiful beaches, coastal cliffs, intimate bays and coves, and a legendary nightlife that will have you dancing until the sun rises.

I love learning about Nicaragua's culture and experiencing its Spanish influence in some cities. I was only there for five days, but I'll never forget how delicious the food was and how welcoming and extremely polite the people were.

Festival de Los Farolitos is an annual nighttime festival held every September in the town of Ataco, where the streets, houses, and plazas are illuminated with thousands of handmade lanterns (farolitos). Families craft them using colored paper, wood, calabash gourds, or jars, each with a candle inside. Although it's tied to the eve of the Virgin Mary’s birthday, it has evolved into a cultural celebration of community, light, creativity, and town pride.
