The Allure of Vietnam for Solo Travellers

Solo travel to Vietnam is an experience in self-discovery, where ancient traditions meet modern vibrancy. From the bustling streets of Hanoi with its centuries-old architecture to the serene beauty of Ha Long Bay's emerald waters, Vietnam offers an abundance of experiences for solo explorers. Travelling alone here allows you the freedom to immerse yourself deeply in its culture — to linger in quaint cafés sipping local coffee, or wander through bustling markets sampling street food that tantalises your taste buds.

Cultural Delights and Must-See Sights

Vietnam is a treasure trove of cultural delights. In Hanoi, the heart of North Vietnam, explore the Old Quarter’s narrow streets, where colonial architecture meets vibrant street life. Witness the solemn beauty of the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university, deeply etched with history and scholarship.

Further south, the ancient town of Hoi An enchants with its lantern-lit evenings and timeless charm. Wander the charming streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, delve into tailor shops offering custom creations, and participate in a traditional cooking class to bring home a taste of Vietnamese cuisine.

Don't miss the energetic Ho Chi Minh City, where history merges seamlessly with contemporary vibrance. Here, the War Remnants Museum and the Cu Chi Tunnels offer profound insights into Vietnam's past, while the city’s rooftop bars and vibrant night markets celebrate its modern zest.

Embrace Adventure with Guided Tours

Tours of Vietnam can be a fantastic option for solo adventurers wanting a structured itinerary with like-minded explorers. Join group excursions to navigate the winding roads of the Mekong Delta or explore the rugged beauty of Sapa’s rice terraces. These tours ensure safety and camaraderie, aspects that solo travellers, especially women, might appreciate.

Enrolled in guided experiences, solo female travellers can enjoy stunning expeditions without the concern of logistics. Moreover, shared experiences often cultivate friendships beyond borders, enhancing your travel story with unique perspectives and shared memories.

Essential Tips for Women Travelling Solo

While Vietnam is widely recognized as a welcoming destination for solo female travellers, a few guidelines ensure a safe and delightful journey:

  • Dress Respectfully: Lightweight, modest clothing is ideal, respecting local customs while staying comfortable in the tropical climate.
  • Stay Connected: Consider obtaining a local SIM card for navigation and staying in touch with acquaintances back home.
  • Trust Your Instincts: While the locals are mostly friendly, following your gut ensures safety when exploring alone.
  • Learn Key Phrases: A few Vietnamese greetings and thank-yous can bridge cultural gaps and enrich interactions.

Culinary Journeys

No trip to Vietnam is complete without indulging in its vibrant cuisine. For the foodie traveller, Vietnam offers dishes that are a feast for the senses. Savour the iconic Pho, a steaming bowl of fragrant broth and silky noodles, or indulge in Banh Mi, a crispy baguette filled with a delightful fusion of flavours.

Wandering the streets, the appealing aroma of street food is irresistible. Sample Bun Cha in Hanoi, feast on fresh spring rolls in Hoi An, and savour the sumptuous seafood in coastal towns.

Whether you’re navigating the bustling city streets or soaking in the tranquil countryside vistas, solo trips for women to Vietnam open doors to countless adventures and cherished moments. Each corner of this vibrant country beckons with stories waiting to be explored and shared. So why wait? Set off on your journey to discover Vietnam, a land that promises wonder and warmth in every encounter.

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

Goway helped plan our two week trip to Peru and they (Virginia in particular) did a great job. The on-site logistics with Condor Travel went very smoothly, and the trip exceeded our expectations overall. They proactively suggested changes to our initial itinerary which were welcomed. I would recommend them and would work with them again in the future.Kate O'Neill

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
