Tashkent Tours and Vacation Packages

Overview

Take a trip to Tashkent on your Uzbekistan Vacation

Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. Although it has a history dating back to the glory days of the Silk Road, little remains of the ancient city due to an earthquake in 1966. On Uzbekistan tours, you will see that much of the city was rebuilt. It is a mixture of Soviet-style architecture and contemporary buildings and has been described as part leafy city and part sleepy Uzbek town. This is because of fact that one can see farmers taking their wares to the bazaar through the modern sections of the city. It does have the best museums and restaurants in the country to be experienced on Uzbekistan travel.

The Old town has retained most of its charm with its adobe houses, courtyards, narrow winding streets and many ancient mosques. The Chorsu Bazaar here is a well-known lively farmer’s market selling fruit and vegetables as well as spices and clothes. It is the largest and oldest bazaar in Central Asia and has been operating in the same place for over two thousand years. It also offers the visitor the opportunity to see Uzbeks in their colourful traditional dress. You can watch craftspeople making jewellery, embroidery, lace, quilts and other assorted merchandise.

The History Museum of the People of Uzbekistan is the perfect place to learn about the history of the country from ancient times to the present including exhibits about the Russian conquest of Uzbekistan. The Fine Arts Museum of Uzbekistan gives an overview of the history of art in the country from the 7th Century to contemporary works. The Tashkent Gallery of Modern Art offers works by young artists. In Khast Imom Square, Tashkent’s religious centre in the Old Town, the library/museum houses the world’s oldest Koran dating back to the 7th Century - a well-preserved deerskin copy and a most treasured item.

Some of the other highlights of Uzbekistan travel include the Kulkedash Madrasa (a madrasa is an educational centre) situated on a hill overlooking the Chorsu Bazaar built in the 1990s on the site of a16th Century mosque destroyed during the Soviet occupation; the TV Tower which can be seen from all over the city and which has a viewing platform; many mausoleums dotted around Tashkent such as the Kaldyrgach-bly Mausoleum, the most ancient monument in Tashkent from the 15th Century with a dome in the form of a pyramid, the Khavendi Takhur Sheikh Mausoleum founded in the 14th Century and the Yunus Khan Mausoleum - Yunus Khan (1415-1487) was a descendant of Genghis Khan; the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre built by the same architect that designed Lenin’s Tomb in Moscow and which features classical ballet and opera.

We went on a highly customized comprehensive (though quick tour) of England and a bit of Scotland through Goway. Ingrid Aird did an amazing job of planning and arranging every detail with her deep experience, insight, thoughtfulness and creativity, tuning into the needs of each traveler; and she did so even though our decision to travel was rather spontaneous and last minute! Our family had the best time! We look forward to working with Ingrid and Goway again!Vilja Breiling

I can't tell you enough how much I love to work with Callie. She is a life saver and I love how attentive she is. Every time I give her an itinerary for a client- she really knocks it out of the park with the proposal. If there are any issues- she is on it right away. Her work ethic is outstanding.Michelle Labarca

We were trying to navigate Swiss Travel Center to book a 10 day train trip through Switzerland. It was exactly what we wanted but navigating their site was extremely difficult for us. Goway Travel picked up on our plight and put us in contact with Jacqueline Fagooli, one of their agents. From there on everything was so smooth. Their efficiency, communication, and thoroughness were beyond our expectations. The trip was fabulous and kudos to Jacqueline and Goway for their help in making it so.Carolyn McCormack

The destination specialist I've worked with (Kim Rawlings) has provided exceptional service. She is very knowledgeable of her region and everything they have to offer. She is very prompt in her communication and follow-up. She listens and is very attentive to my client's needs and wants. Kim's personality makes one feel like they've known each other for years. If GoWay had a customer service model, Kim is it.T. Jackson, Tribe Trek Travel
