Nestled in Central Asia, this enchanting country has long been revered as a key junction on the Silk Road, famed for its role in connecting the East and West. Let’s embark on a journey to uncover where to visit in Uzbekistan and explore its most popular places.

The Timeless Allure of Samarkand

Samarkand stands as a testament to Uzbekistan's rich history, offering visitors a glimpse into a bygone era. As one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities, it beckons with its awe-inspiring architecture and captivating stories. Wander through the Registan Square, the heart of the city, where intricate mosaics and majestic madrassas create a timeless backdrop for cultural exploration. Don't miss the Shah-i-Zinda, a necropolis that dazzles with its array of blue-tiled mausoleums.

Bukhara: A Living Museum

Considered the holiest city in Central Asia, Bukhara is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and deep spiritual heritage. Traverse its winding alleys to discover the Bukhara Ark, a historic fortress offering panoramic views. Dive into the lively atmosphere of the Lyab-i Hauz, a vibrant square surrounded by historic buildings and bustling tea houses, where traditional Uzbek hospitality shines.

The Mystique of Khiva

Venture to Khiva, a UNESCO World Heritage site that seems to have stepped straight out of a fairy tale. Its Ichan Kala, or "inner city," is a captivating maze of narrow streets and stunning clay-walled buildings. The entire city serves as an open-air museum where each step reveals another relic of history, from the towering Kalta Minor Minaret to the intricately detailed Juma Mosque.

The Natural Splendour of the Fergana Valley

Escape the historic cities and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Fergana Valley, known for its lush landscapes and vibrant culture. This fertile region boasts sprawling vineyards, bustling bazaars, and the opportunity to witness the traditional craftsmanship of silk weaving. A visit to the city of Margilan offers insight into this ancient art, with workshops that invite you to engage with artisans keeping these traditions alive.

Cultural Heritage and Culinary Delight

  • Indulge in Uzbekistan's gastronomic delights, where each dish tells a story of cultural exchange along the Silk Road. From savoury plov, a fragrant rice dish cooked with lamb and spices, to succulent shashlik skewers, the country's cuisine is a reflection of its diverse heritage.
  • Experience a local teahouse, where time slows down and flavours are savoured alongside the company of new friends.

Practical Travel Tips and Uzbekistan Travel Packages

When planning your journey, explore Uzbekistan travel packages that offer a blend of guided tours and independent exploration. These packages often include highlights of the most popular places to visit in Uzbekistan, ensuring a comprehensive experience. Consider travelling in spring or autumn, when the climate is most pleasant for outdoor explorations.

Remember to respect local customs, particularly in religious sites where modest attire is appreciated. Additionally, learning a few basic phrases in Uzbek will surely endear you to the friendly locals who are proud to share their rich cultural tapestry.

Embrace the allure of Uzbekistan, where ancient history blends seamlessly with vibrant culture, captivating every traveller who ventures within its borders. We recently traveled to Portugal and had the most wonderful experience. As our first venture overseas, we decided to search online for travel assistance. We happened across Goway Travel and are so glad we did! Michael Keon, our Destination Specialist, is extremely proficient and knowledgeable in his profession. "Thorough" is an understatement. He assisted every step of the way from the moment we stepped on our flights, transfer arrangements, hotel accommodations, train travel and multiple tours/outings tailored to our specific needs/wish list. He provided unparalleled guidance and support during the planning process and was always available to discuss any questions/concerns. His communications were always prompt and concise. Without a doubt, our best trip to date...there will be no hesitation to contact Mr. Keon for future travels. Joanna Lynn Mays Michael Andrew Mays Joanna Mays

What made this experience great was Cedric Wai. Had a client going to Asia and this is Cedric's wheelhouse since he is from there. Everything was wonderful. Everything went smoothly. The individual tours were wonderful and all the guides were exceptional. A lot of traveling-the flight was very good on Cathay Pacific would highly recommend their airline seats were comfortable and spaced well. Being on an airplane for 16 hours sucks in general, but other than being a little sore from being stuck in one place all was good. Thank you so much for all your help and the trip was wonderful and everything that it should be! Next trip will be much more relaxing, sitting still for a while on a beach somewhere ha ha!Careen Sullivan

My destination specialist, Katie Stephenson was amazing from the onset. Her customer service, communication style and planning skills was so timely and top notch. Our trip was to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, from Aug 4-22, 2026. The way she planned and booked the trip makes the experience convenient and enjoyable. The flexibility of payment makes the decision faster and attractive. Everything we need to know including contacts were readily available within our travel documents itinerary. Overall, I'll say it's money well spent and a lifetime experience particularly for my kids.Festus

We went on a highly customized comprehensive (though quick tour) of England and a bit of Scotland through Goway. Ingrid Aird did an amazing job of planning and arranging every detail with her deep experience, insight, thoughtfulness and creativity, tuning into the needs of each traveler; and she did so even though our decision to travel was rather spontaneous and last minute! Our family had the best time! We look forward to working with Ingrid and Goway again!Vilja Breiling
