Imagine a place where futuristic skyscrapers touch the sky while the aroma of rich spices wafts through bustling hawker centres. Welcome to Singapore—an island city-state renowned for its spectacular fusion of the modern and the traditional. As a traveller, finding your path through this vibrantly diverse locale is like embarking on a journey of flavours and scenes, each more stunning than the last. This post will guide you through the highlights of Singapore food and wine tours and the exciting tapestry of indulgence that Singapore vacations promise.

The Allure of Street Food: Singapore's Hawker Centres

Any Singapore food tour worth its salt will commence at a hawker centre. These open-air complexes are where locals and visitors alike gather to relish a variety of affordable, delectable dishes. Begin your culinary exploration at Lau Pa Sat, nestled amidst the towering concrete jungle of the Central Business District. Here, the celebrated Satay Street lights up each evening, offering skewers of sizzling meats with spicy peanut sauce—a local favourite that mustn't be missed.

When navigating a Singapore food tour, the iconic Maxwell Food Centre is another treasure trove. Grab a bowl of the famous Hainanese chicken rice, often touted as the nation's unofficial dish. The silky tenderness of the poached chicken served over fragrant rice is a simple yet delightful experience. Embrace the spontaneity these centres offer; let your senses guide your choices!

A Toast to Singapore: Discovering Local Libations

Singapore vacations wouldn't be complete without exploring the local drink scene. The city boasts a dazzling array of cocktail bars, including the famed Long Bar at Raffles Hotel, home to the Singapore Sling. A quintessential part of the city’s colonial heritage, sipping on this pink concoction in its birthplace is a must-experience on your wine tour adventures.

For wine enthusiasts, Singapore offers tasting experiences as eclectic as its food scene. Explore Little Red Dot wine bars, known for serving international wines with expertly paired local dishes. Watch as bartenders seamlessly blend flavours from around the globe, enhancing your culinary journey.

Culture and Culinary Fusion: The Heart of Singapore

While food and drink are pivotal to any Singapore travel experience, the island's rich tapestry of cultures enriches its culinary traditions. Wander through the vibrant precinct of Katong for a taste of Peranakan cuisine, a fusion of Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian influences. Nyonya laksa—a spicy coconut noodle soup—and kueh, colourful confectionaries, are not just local delicacies but tales of a community deeply rooted in cultural intermingling.

Venture into Chinatown during your Singapore vacations for street eats and a peek into the past with heritage-infused architecture. Similarly, Little India buzzes with activity and flavours, offering tourists a sensory overload with its vibrant spices, textiles, and the mouth-watering thosai and biryani from local restaurants.

Exploring Beyond the Food: Must-Visit Destinations

The adventure continues beyond culinary delights. Step into the serenity of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through the National Orchid Garden or indulge in a leisurely sg ngahng (sing-a-long) with locals under the swaying palms.

For those seeking urban thrills, a stroll down Orchard Road is essential. Singapore's premier shopping avenue, it is a cosmopolitan playground with an abundance of stores, from luxury brands to quirky boutiques. Complement shopping with a visit to Marina Bay Sands for unparalleled views of the shimmering cityscape.

Practical Travel Tips for Your Singapore Adventure

To maximize your Singapore vacations, consider these nifty tips:

  • Travel Smart: Make use of Singapore’s efficient public transport. The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is your gateway to exploring the city with ease.
  • Respect Local Norms: Singapore is known for its cleanliness and stringent regulations. Familiarize yourself with local customs and etiquette to blend seamlessly.
  • Stay Hydrated: The tropical climate can take its toll. Water is conveniently accessible across the island, ensuring you stay refreshed.

Your Singapore journey can be as unique and diverse as the island itself. Whether it's through embarking on Singapore food and wine tours, basking in cultural riches, or delighting in the city’s modern marvels, each visitor will discover a facet of this glittering jewel that resonates with them uniquely. Embark on your adventure today and let the Lion City weave its tales of discovery into your travel story. I'd say that there is no bad time to visit Singapore, you just need to be ready to spend since they are considered at their peak all-year-round. Best times to visit will depend on the purpose of the trip - if you're in for a festive feels, then traveling closer to Lunar New year, Singapore National Day, Christmas and New Year would be great. Though weather may be a challenge in between.

Singapore has become a Foodie Epicenter because of the great cuisine diversity that they have. They have almost everything when it comes to food - from local to Malay to Chinese to Indian. You can even find Michelin restaurants in Hawker centers - if the queue is long, the food is good!

a top event to experience is Lunar New Year where Chinatown would be filled with colorful decorations, lights and markets - if you're lucky, you'd be able to watch lion dances along the streets, malls, small shops and offices.

If you'd like to see how it's like living in a traditional "kampong" (village) away from Singapore, then you can take a bumboat ride to Pulau Ubin. Visitors usually go there for a day trip and cycle around. You'll see wooden houses, wild boars and the biodiverse Chek Jawa wetlands

We recently completed a custom Vietnam tour organized by Goway, and it was everything we asked for and more. We would definitely choose Goway again. The true highlights of our trip, however, were our two guides: Vu Dang and Thien. They truly made our experience unforgettable. Both were incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and kind. Their pride in their Vietnamese heritage shone through in every conversation, making our learning experience both deep and engaging. We learned so much in such a short time, and it was always fascinating. I would highly recommend these two guides to anyone visiting Vietnam!Laura Derbyshire

Everything was expertly planned, from the drivers to the hotels to the tours to the flights. We particularly enjoyed Hobart and the animal sanctuary, Adelaide and the trip to Kangaroo Island, Melbourne and the evening tour with dinner and drinks, and Sydney with the private boat cruise of the Harbour. We will definitely use Goway again.SARA Wiebe

There were 4 travelers on this trip. All of us were in our late 70's. We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was. Would definately use Goway for our travel needs in the future.Dianne

After spending some time with our agent, we felt that she understood exactly what we had in mind as far as the level of service, etc, we were hoping for. The trip exceeded our expectations. Lori kept us busy(not too busy!) and we had many, many very exciting experiences. Bruce Belshaw

Aylin is an exceptionally proficient advisor. Coordinating my clients simultaneously often feels like herding cats, but she has remained patient and accommodating through every modification and delay. Goway continues to be my go-to for complex itineraries, and they never disappoint.Nick Cron, ACC

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 weeks in New Zealand! The country is so beautiful and the people so friendly. Our destination specialist did a great job with planning and organizing the itinerary, choosing our hotels, and organizing transportation. The hotels were absolutely beautiful and we had great views. We felt right at home and found all of the staff to be friendly and accommodating. There were no issues with our itinerary and our excursions we were always on the list. Our transportation was always ready and waiting for us. We want to thank Goway Travel for their hard work and patience with us in planning this trip. Any changes that needed to be made were communicated timely. We also want to thank you for the beautiful weather during the entire 2 weeks it was perfect every day 😀. It was a memorable trip that we will never forget and we will think of Goway when we plan our next adventure. Because it was not just a vacation; it was an adventure!Connie Wenhardt

Brigitta Fuller is Amazing! She was my group coordinator. She understood the assignment and all the nuances I was trying to achieve. The itinerary she curated was fantastic. If you want someone who truly cares about her group and what they are trying to achieve. I will always reach out to Brigitta first for Europe groups. Kathryn Walker
