This morning, depart for Agra, the capital of the Mughal Empire during the 16th and 17th centuries. While Agra's fame is closely tied to the Mughals, its roots trace back much further, with links to the Mahabharata period around 3000 BC. Historically known as Akbarabad, the city rose to prominence under the Mughal dynasty, serving as home to three generations of rulers, each leaving a distinct mark on its legacy. Agra boasts some of the finest examples of Mughal architecture in India, with the Taj Mahal standing as its most celebrated masterpiece.
Upon arrival, explore the magnificent Agra Fort, constructed by Emperor Akbar between 1565 and 1573. This imposing structure, with its massive red sandstone walls, grand gates, and surrounding moat, dominates the heart of the city. The fort holds significant historical importance, including the imprisonment of Emperor Shah Jahan by his son Aurangzeb. Shah Jahan spent his final days in the luxurious Muasamman Burj, a marble tower offering a stunning view of the Taj Mahal.
Later, visit the iconic Taj Mahal to witness its ethereal beauty, especially as it glows in the light of the rising sun. Built over 22 years by more than 20,000 artisans, this white marble mausoleum was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who passed away at age 39 while giving birth to their fourteenth child. The Taj Mahal's unparalleled elegance and intricate craftsmanship leave an unforgettable impression as you enter through its majestic gateway.

Designed in 1911 and inaugurated in 1931, this well-planned area combines British and Indian architectural styles. Along the grand avenue now known as Kartavya Path (formerly Raj Path), you'll find the British War Memorial Arch, popularly known as India Gate. This iconic structure commemorates the 90,000 Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I while serving in the British Army. At the opposite end of the avenue stands Rashtrapati Bhavan, originally built as the residence for the British Viceroy and now serving as the official home of the President of India.
Visit Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an exquisite example of Mughal architecture in red sandstone, where Emperor Humayun, the father of Akbar, rests. Then proceed to the Qutab Minar, India's tallest stone tower, standing at an impressive height of 234 feet, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship and historical significance.

Delhi to Kolkata with Kolkata Heritage Tour & Bengali Family Dinner
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Delhi airport for your flight to Kolkata.
Welcome to Kolkata, a city that proudly wears its heritage and is a fascinating blend of historical charm and modern vibrancy. Known for its iconic Durga Puja celebrations, Kolkata is often referred to as the cultural capital of India and affectionately as the street food capital. The city boasts beautiful colonial-era architecture, bustling markets, and a thriving culinary scene.
Kolkata's cuisine is a treasure trove of flavors shaped by centuries of historical influences. From Armenians and Jewish communities to Chinese and Tibetans, a variety of cultural influences have shaped the city's food. Its culinary heritage remains remarkably authentic, blending regional, religious, and global flavors with a unique touch that is unmistakably Bengali.
Upon your arrival at Kolkata airport, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. Later in the afternoon, embark on a heritage tour through Kolkata's historic district.
Begin your journey in the heritage zone, where the British once envisioned Kolkata as the second city of their empire. This tour showcases the architectural grandeur of the 'European' areas that were central to British rule in India. Stroll past landmarks such as the Writer's Building, the former headquarters of the East India Company, the Governor's House, the Calcutta High Court, Town Hall, General Post Office, and the almost-forgotten Charnock Mausoleum. During the tour, enjoy a taste of Kolkata's street food.

Full Day Iconic Sights of Kolkata & Art and Pottery Tour
The day begins with a visit to the impressive Howrah Bridge, a cantilevered structure spanning the Hooghly River, connecting Kolkata with the industrial town of Howrah. This bustling bridge sees 80,000 vehicles and over 1 million pedestrians crossing each day, along with countless cattle and bicycles.
Beneath the eastern end of the Howrah Bridge lies Mullik Ghat, a vibrant and photogenic flower market. Over 125 years old, it is the largest flower market in East India, with around 3,000 flower growers from surrounding areas selling their goods daily. The scene is a feast for the senses: vibrant garlands of marigolds in yellow and orange are carried by women on their heads or arms, men unload trucks, and baskets of flowers are carried with grace up the steps leading to the bridge. Below, life flows along the river as men, women, and children wash, pray, work, and eat amidst the hustle and bustle. It's a captivating experience, but be mindful of where you step as the market teems with activity!
Next, we head to Kumartolly, Kolkata's famous potter's colony, where skilled artisans create clay idols of Hindu gods and goddesses for religious ceremonies and festivals. Traditionally, families would invite the potter to stay with them for weeks before a festival, where he would sculpt the idol in their presence. Every morning, the family would gather to watch the transformation of a mass of clay and straw into a divine figure. The most intriguing part of the process was the painting of the goddess's third eye - done in a meditative state with one swift stroke of the brush.
Next, we explore the Marble Palace, an exquisite mansion built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick Bahadur, one of Bengal's wealthiest landlords. The palace's grand architecture and stunning artistry will leave you in awe.
After the palace tour, we visit an art collector's home to delve deeper into Kolkata's rich cultural heritage. Our host, has turned her 1901 apartment into a living museum of art and antiques. With high ceilings and spacious rooms, her home is adorned with colorful masks from around the world, and the living room opens onto a large veranda overlooking Shahid Minar and Eden Gardens. For the past two decades, this space has hosted exclusive home dining experiences, offering a personal and immersive way to discover Kolkata's food and culture. This unique dining concept offers a more intimate alternative to restaurants and allows visitors to explore a different side of Kolkata beyond its common associations.
After this enriching cultural experience, we'll enjoy lunch with our host and then return to your hotel for some rest.
In the evening, take a stroll down Park Street, Kolkata's lively hub of entertainment and dining, lined with historic restaurants. After exploring the area, you will have dinner at Mocambo, a heritage restaurant renowned for its Continental cuisine.

The memorial houses an extensive collection of British Raj paintings and memorabilia. Set amidst 64 acres of meticulously maintained gardens, it's a perfect place to relax and immerse yourself in history. This expansive green space is also home to a lively mix of goats, cows, cricket players, footballers, horse riders, street vendors, and picnickers - offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Kolkata.
The next stop takes us to Kusum's Roll, a renowned Kati Roll shop, where you can customize your roll with a choice of egg, chicken, mutton, vegetables, or cottage cheese. We then visit the famous food counters at Vardaan Market, known for its delicious Puchkas (Indian-style panipuri), Chilla (savory pancakes), and other street food favorites.

Kolkata to Chennai with Majestic Chennai City Tour
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Kolkata airport for your flight to Chennai.
Welcome to Chennai, formerly known as Madras, and the Gateway to Southern India. Like Mumbai and Kolkata, it is a modern creation, established by the East India Company in 1639 near the ancient Tamil port of Mylapore and the Portuguese settlement of San Thome. The city grew rapidly around Fort St. George, a fortified trading post, and soon expanded to incorporate neighboring villages.
Upon your arrival at Chennai airport, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel.
This afternoon, delve into the majestic charm of Chennai, once a seat of British power, and home to many "Splendors of the Raj." The tour introduces you to three key areas: Georgetown, the site of the first British outpost in India; central Chennai, the bustling commercial hub; and the eastern section, known for its historic quarters and scenic Marine Drive.
Your first stop is Fort St. George, a British-built stronghold that now serves as the Tamil Nadu Government Secretariat and Legislative Assembly. This historic site features 20-foot walls, St. Mary's Church - India's oldest Anglican church - and the Fort St. George Museum, showcasing artifacts from the British era.
Next, visit St. Mary's Church, known for its thick walls and vaulted roof, designed to withstand the city's turbulent past. The church's English architectural style incorporates thoughtful adaptations for the tropical climate, with open windows and doorways to welcome the breeze.
Drive past the impressive Madras High Court, celebrated as one of the finest examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture, with its distinctive white domes and sandstone towers. Conclude your tour with a scenic drive along Marine Drive, which skirts one of the world's longest city beaches. Notably, this prime beachfront is free of typical tourist developments, as government buildings occupy much of the shoreline.
In the evening, savor a traditional Tamil dinner at a renowned local restaurant, offering an authentic taste of Chennai's rich culinary heritage.

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals.
