Must-See Attractions in South Africa

Begin your journey in the heart of South Africa's natural wonders. A visit to Kruger National Park is a rite of passage for wildlife enthusiasts. As one of the oldest and largest game reserves in Africa, Kruger hosts an array of wildlife including the famous Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, elephants, and Cape buffaloes. Whether you're embarking on a self-drive journey or joining one of the best South Africa tours for a guided safari, the thrill of seeing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat is unparalleled.

For those enchanted by coastal beauty, the Garden Route is a must-see. This scenic drive stretches along the country’s southeastern coast, offering lush forests, serene lagoons, and dramatic coastline views. Along the way, stop at the picturesque town of Knysna nestled amidst ancient forests and tranquil lagoons, or venture into the beaches of Plettenberg Bay for a day by the ocean.

In Cape Town, history and modernity intertwine. The city is overlooked by the iconic Table Mountain, considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. A cable car ride to the summit offers panoramic views of the city and the azure waters of the Atlantic. Close by, the historic Robben Island is steeped in historical significance as the site of Nelson Mandela's imprisonment. Today, it stands as a symbol of the triumph of democracy over oppression.

Unique Cultural Experiences

South Africa's culture is as diverse as its landscapes. Experience the rich traditions by visiting a Zulu village in KwaZulu-Natal. Here, you can learn about Zulu customs and participate in traditional dances and song ceremonies. Such cultural encounters provide insight into the country's tapestry of heritages.

The vibrant city of Johannesburg, or Jo'burg as locals fondly call it, is the country's cultural powerhouse. Visit the Apartheid Museum to understand the country's complex past and the resilience that shaped it. Additionally, the trendy neighbourhoods of Braamfontein and Maboneng offer a taste of contemporary South Africa with their lively arts scene, eclectic dining options, and buzzing nightlife.

Food Journey Through South Africa

A South Africa vacation isn't complete without indulging in the country's culinary offerings. Start with a hearty serving of braai, the South African take on BBQ, enjoyed best with friends under the warm sun. To truly embrace local flavours, sample bunny chow, a delicious curry served in a hollowed-out loaf of bread, originating from the Indian community in Durban.

Wine enthusiasts will find solace in the Cape Winelands, particularly in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. These regions boast some of the world's finest vineyards. Embark on a wine tour to savour bold reds and crisp whites, paired perfectly with gourmet South African cuisine, for a delectable experience.

Practical Tips for Your Journey

  • Best Time to Visit: South Africa enjoys a varied climate. For wildlife viewing, May to September is ideal, while the summer months (November to March) offer warm, sunny weather perfect for beach holidays.
  • Transportation: Renting a car is a popular option for travellers looking to explore the country at their own pace. However, for those who prefer guided experiences, numerous tours provide comprehensive itineraries covering major attractions and hidden gems alike.
  • Health Precautions: Ensure your vaccinations are up-to-date and consult with your healthcare provider regarding malaria prophylaxis if you're visiting high-risk areas.

South Africa beckons with its blend of natural wonders and cultural riches, promising memorable experiences that linger long after your return. Whether you're drawn by the thrill of the safari, the allure of cosmopolitan cities, or the inviting embrace of the coast, South Africa has something for every traveller. Start your journey by exploring the best South Africa tours that cater to diverse interests and uncover the myriad of must-see things in South Africa.

It is with the utmost pleasure and heartfelt appreciation that I share my exceptional experience working with Taha Colombowala, Goway's distinguished Groups Specialist. Our journey together began in October 2023, when Taha took the helm in orchestrating what was to be a remarkable group trip to Ghana. When unforeseen circumstances necessitated a change in plans, Taha demonstrated his extraordinary expertise by recommending Morocco as an alternative destination — a suggestion that proved to be nothing short of absolutely brilliant! From the very first interaction to the final farewell, Taha has been a consummate professional in every sense of the word. His lightning-fast response times, encyclopedic knowledge of destinations, and remarkable ability to pivot seamlessly under pressure are truly second to none. What sets Taha apart, however, is not only his professional acumen but also his warm, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic attitude toward accommodating the unique needs and personalities of every member of our group. Taha Colombowala is, without question, a shining star within the Goway family, and an extraordinary ambassador for everything the brand represents. I cannot recommend him highly enough — he has exceeded every expectation and then some. Working with Taha has been an absolute privilege, and I look forward to many more incredible adventures ahead!DESIREE DUCKETT

Everything was expertly planned, from the drivers to the hotels to the tours to the flights. We particularly enjoyed Hobart and the animal sanctuary, Adelaide and the trip to Kangaroo Island, Melbourne and the evening tour with dinner and drinks, and Sydney with the private boat cruise of the Harbour. We will definitely use Goway again.SARA Wiebe

There were 4 travelers on this trip. All of us were in our late 70's. We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was. Would definately use Goway for our travel needs in the future.Dianne

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 weeks in New Zealand! The country is so beautiful and the people so friendly. Our destination specialist did a great job with planning and organizing the itinerary, choosing our hotels, and organizing transportation. The hotels were absolutely beautiful and we had great views. We felt right at home and found all of the staff to be friendly and accommodating. There were no issues with our itinerary and our excursions we were always on the list. Our transportation was always ready and waiting for us. We want to thank Goway Travel for their hard work and patience with us in planning this trip. Any changes that needed to be made were communicated timely. We also want to thank you for the beautiful weather during the entire 2 weeks it was perfect every day 😀. It was a memorable trip that we will never forget and we will think of Goway when we plan our next adventure. Because it was not just a vacation; it was an adventure!Connie Wenhardt

Brigitta Fuller is Amazing! She was my group coordinator. She understood the assignment and all the nuances I was trying to achieve. The itinerary she curated was fantastic. If you want someone who truly cares about her group and what they are trying to achieve. I will always reach out to Brigitta first for Europe groups. Kathryn Walker
