Discover the Untamed Beauty of Rwanda's National Parks

When embarking on trips to Rwanda, a visit to its famous national parks is a must. Volcanoes National Park is the crown jewel of these parks, known for its critical role in the conservation of mountain gorillas. Trekking into its misty forests becomes a deeply moving experience as you meet the gentle giants in their natural habitat. Each tour, led by knowledgeable guides, offers insights into gorilla behaviour and the conservation efforts underway to protect them.

Akagera National Park presents a contrasting landscape, showcasing the rich biodiversity found in Rwanda's savannas. It's a place where the thrill of spotting the Big Five mingles with the serene beauty of expansive lakes. Whether it's a boat trip on Lake Ihema or a guided 4x4 safari through the park, visitors are treated to a visual feast of African wildlife.

Cultural Trails and Heritage in Rwanda

Beyond Rwanda's natural splendour lies a tapestry of cultural experiences that enrich the journey. Kigali, the vibrant capital, is often the starting point for most travellers. Here, modernity meets tradition with a backdrop of rolling hills and bustling marketplaces. The Kigali Genocide Memorial offers a somber yet essential insight into the country’s past, fostering a deep appreciation for its rapid transformation and resilient spirit.

As you delve deeper into Rwanda’s rural heartlands, the warmth of the people and the richness of their traditions become even more apparent. The Iby’iwacu Cultural Village near Volcanoes National Park invites visitors to partake in traditional dances, crafts, and folklore, offering a window into the everyday life and ethos of Rwandan communities.

Unforgettable Culinary Experiences

The cuisine in Rwanda is a delightful surprise for the senses. Influenced by its agricultural bounty, Rwandan dishes are both hearty and flavourful. Delight in local staples such as ugali (a stiff maize porridge), grilled brochettes of meats and vegetables, or savour the intricate spices of ibihaza (pumpkin stew). Kigali’s emerging culinary scene also presents a diverse range of dining options from traditional meals to international cuisines, all served with the welcoming spirit that characterizes Rwandan hospitality.

Practical Tips for Travellers

While on safari in Rwanda, it's essential to be prepared for the varying climates and terrains. The country's elevation contributes to cooler temperatures, particularly in the mountains, so packing layers is wise. Respect for local customs and dressing modestly, especially in rural areas, fosters positive interactions and shows cultural sensitivity.

Transportation within Rwanda is efficient, with well-maintained roads connecting major cities and tourist spots. Public buses and taxis are readily available in urban areas, while guided tours can provide transportation to more remote destinations. For those exploring independently, renting a car offers flexibility and convenience.

Step Into Rwanda's Embrace

Rwanda's warm embrace offers a harmonious blend of adventure, culture, and tranquility, making it an unforgettable destination for those who seek an authentic African experience. Whether your journey takes you tracking gorillas through dense rainforest, cruising along the shimmering waters of Lake Kivu, or wandering through Kigali's vibrant streets, Rwanda captivates at every turn. As you plan your next adventure, consider diving into the heart of Africa on the most popular Rwanda safari tours—it promises not just travel but transformation.

Globetrotters should try to experience The Gorilla Naming Ceremony : Culturally, the naming of an infant is a big affair, and Rwanda has adopted the same cultural event with the New-born Mountain Gorillas, as way to highlight the need to protect these gentle giants that were on the verge of being hunted to extinction.

Rwanda is always a surprise; especially for a 1st time visitor to Africa. The beautiful landscape (hills, mountains and rivers), is accentuated by the clean and organised infrastructure. Being a small country with shorter drives between parks, Rwanda offers superb photography experiences.

We recently traveled to Portugal and had the most wonderful experience. As our first venture overseas, we decided to search online for travel assistance. We happened across Goway Travel and are so glad we did! Michael Keon, our Destination Specialist, is extremely proficient and knowledgeable in his profession. "Thorough" is an understatement. He assisted every step of the way from the moment we stepped on our flights, transfer arrangements, hotel accommodations, train travel and multiple tours/outings tailored to our specific needs/wish list. He provided unparalleled guidance and support during the planning process and was always available to discuss any questions/concerns. His communications were always prompt and concise. Without a doubt, our best trip to date...there will be no hesitation to contact Mr. Keon for future travels. Joanna Lynn Mays Michael Andrew Mays Joanna Mays

What made this experience great was Cedric Wai. Had a client going to Asia and this is Cedric's wheelhouse since he is from there. Everything was wonderful. Everything went smoothly. The individual tours were wonderful and all the guides were exceptional. A lot of traveling-the flight was very good on Cathay Pacific would highly recommend their airline seats were comfortable and spaced well. Being on an airplane for 16 hours sucks in general, but other than being a little sore from being stuck in one place all was good. Thank you so much for all your help and the trip was wonderful and everything that it should be! Next trip will be much more relaxing, sitting still for a while on a beach somewhere ha ha!Careen Sullivan

My destination specialist, Katie Stephenson was amazing from the onset. Her customer service, communication style and planning skills was so timely and top notch. Our trip was to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, from Aug 4-22, 2026. The way she planned and booked the trip makes the experience convenient and enjoyable. The flexibility of payment makes the decision faster and attractive. Everything we need to know including contacts were readily available within our travel documents itinerary. Overall, I'll say it's money well spent and a lifetime experience particularly for my kids.Festus

We went on a highly customized comprehensive (though quick tour) of England and a bit of Scotland through Goway. Ingrid Aird did an amazing job of planning and arranging every detail with her deep experience, insight, thoughtfulness and creativity, tuning into the needs of each traveler; and she did so even though our decision to travel was rather spontaneous and last minute! Our family had the best time! We look forward to working with Ingrid and Goway again!Vilja Breiling
