The Allure of Adventure Travel in Ghana

Adventure vacation packages to Ghana offer something for every kind of explorer, from adrenaline-pumping exploits to serene moments in nature's embrace. Nestled along the Gulf of Guinea, this diverse country is renowned for its stunning coastlines, dense rainforests, and vibrant cities. Here, you'll find everything from sun-kissed beaches along the Atlantic Ocean to the lush greenery of its national parks.

For those who crave excitement, spend your days hiking through the breathtaking landscapes of Mole National Park, home to majestic elephants, antelopes, and vibrant birdlife. The park is one of the best places to witness Ghana's remarkable wildlife, offering the quintessential safari experience only a stone's throw from Accra, the bustling capital city.

A Cultural Odyssey in the Heart of Ghana

Ghana vacations are incomplete without delving into its rich cultural tapestry. A visit to the Cape Coast offers a poignant exploration into the country’s past with its colonial architecture and fortresses, such as the iconic Cape Coast Castle. Built by the Swedes in the 17th century, this historical site tells the haunting story of the transatlantic slave trade, offering a reflective connection to the annals of history.

Trek deeper into the Ashanti Region, where you’ll discover Kumasi, the heart of Asante culture. This is where traditional and contemporary worlds mingle seamlessly. Visitors can marvel at the Manhyia Palace Museum, home to the Asantehene, the ceremonial king of the Ashantis. Here, the colours of the famous kente cloth come to life, each pattern telling a unique story passed down through generations.

Culinary Adventures Await

No journey to Ghana is complete without indulging in its vibrant culinary offerings. The local cuisine is a rich tapestry of flavours, with dishes like Jollof rice, waakye, and fufu forming the heart of many a hearty meal. Embark on culinary tours that take you through bustling markets and lively food stalls, where the aromas of spices and freshly cooked meals fill the air, offering a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

Coastal Charms and Pristine Beaches

The Ghanaian coastline is nothing short of spectacular, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Adventure vacation packages to Ghana often include visits to the idyllic beaches of Busua and Kokrobite, where the sounds of waves crashing on the shore provide the perfect soundtrack for relaxation and reflection.

As you journey along the coast, pay a visit to the stilt village of Nzulezo, a unique architectural wonder nestled on Lake Tadane. A canoe ride to this UNESCO World Heritage Site provides an unparalleled glimpse into a harmonious way of life, where nature and humanity exist in perfect balance.

Practical Tips for Your Ghana Adventure

Embarking on Ghana vacations requires a bit of preparation to make the most of what the country has to offer. Here are a few travel tips to help you enjoy a seamless experience:

  • Climate: Ghana’s climate is tropical, making lightweight clothing and sun protection essential for your journey. The cooler months from November to March are ideal for travel.
  • Local Etiquette: Greeting locals with a handshake and the phrase “Akwaaba!” (meaning “welcome”) goes a long way in building rapport and showcasing respect.
  • Transportation: Public buses, known as 'trotros', are a popular means of getting around. For more comfort, consider hiring a private car with a guide.

In summary, Ghana adventure travel offers a multifaceted experience that caters to a wide array of interests. Whether you're scaling the heights of its lush mountains, digging deep into its profound history, or simply savouring its delightful culinary landscape, Ghana holds the promise of unforgettable memories. Now is the time to step off the beaten path and immerse yourself in the extraordinary allure of Ghana, where adventure awaits at every turn.

Globetrotters might not know that one of Ghana's traditions is to name their children based on the day of the week they were born. This custom, where each day of the week has specific male and female names, is still widely practiced. Clients can actually do a naming ceremony in Ghana where they get a name based on the day they were born and an Ghanaians name based on what the chief decides on the day he meets you

Our 2-week trip to Normandy, Switzerland and Italy after we disembarked from the Queen Mary 2 in Southampton in mid-May was superb. Michael Keon did an amazing job of putting together highlights for us to see and visit with the short time we had. All the train reservations, private and small group tours and transportations were very well coordinated, on time, and usually exceeded our expectations. Drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. Mike did a wonderful job getting everything coordinated, in spite of our almost “last minute” booking. I booked a month-long trip through GOWAY back in 1989 for Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and they were superb then. So I tried them again, and found the entire organization to be even better. Mike was quick to respond to any questions that came up regarding booksings and times, regardless of the 6-hour time difference. Just superb! Although we had a nasty experience in Milan, GOWAY was very responsive and saw to our requests and our needs. Again, Michael Keon is the person who coordinated our travel. I will ask for Mike when I travel again with GOWAY. I recommend GOWAY highly. PJ Wheeler

Goway helped plan our two week trip to Peru and they (Virginia in particular) did a great job. The on-site logistics with Condor Travel went very smoothly, and the trip exceeded our expectations overall. They proactively suggested changes to our initial itinerary which were welcomed. I would recommend them and would work with them again in the future.Kate O'Neill

I recently went on an African Safari with my brother-in-law and sister and another couple who I knew. The entire experience was absolutely unbelievable. The complete details were flawlessly coordinated from the transfers to the breathtaking lodges. Our guides Peter showed us Kenya and Maulid Tanzania were very knowledgeable and very sharp eyes for finding the animals. We were able to see the animals up close, learn a lot about the people, birds , vegetation etc. We had several sundowners in the bush really added to a magical experience with beautiful sunsets. I would highly recommend Goway to all my friends, they will not be disappointed. Thank you to Bijal for the excellent African Safari that you put together for us. You were wonderful.Nancy Hay
